Whenever I hear "Ashes To Ashes" I always hear "I ain't got no money and I ain't got no hands". Doesn't make much sense but "I ain't got no hair" doesn't seem to make much either.

Oh, and also, from Real Cool World-
"You came from nowhere, you came from nowhere, you held me, you shook me, heeeeey"
magically turns into
"You came from your world, you came from your world and shook me aroooound"

<quote>Then there's Station To Station (the song):
"Wonderful, wonderful, wonderwind"
when it actually goes:
"Wonder who, wonder who, wonder when?" </quote>
I definitely did the same thing.
I make no apologies for being fabulous.

This thread, like dolphins, comes and goes.
Actually I have a good one! Force-feeding a friend bowie (as usual) she asked, on hearing New Killer Star, why he was singing about The Cucumber Wars. That's right... In her muddled little mind, New Killer Star and Cucumber War sounds the same AND she thought the latter was the more likely interpretation! They're coming to take her away HA HA...
Still perfecting imperfection

I was just thinking of starting a thread on that subject yesterday, it's funny it should come up today.
I have trouble understanding "The motel" :
It's a kind of living which recognizes The death of the odourless man When nothing is vanity nothing's too slow It's not Eden but it's no sham
or
It's a kind of living which recognizes The days of the old talisman When nothing is vanity nothing's too slow It's not heathen but it's no sham
And then
Explosion falls upon deaf ears While we're swimming in a sea of sham Living in the shadow of vanity A complex fashion for a simple man
or
Explosion falls upon dead years While we're swimming in a sea of sham Living in the shadow of vanity A complex passion for a sinful man
The true Dadaists are against Dada.

And I used to understand "Sunday" this way :
"Look for the sharks of life On the road where the beat goes"

Note books rather than no books in SOTSA.
Leave this can instead of eat this candy from Looking for Water. It ties in with the Major Tom thing and makes up for an awful lyric.
____
"Hating Bowie in 1997 means hating everything overblown, theatrical, pretentious, pseudo-intellectual and jarringly progressive in the past 25 years of pop. In other words, everything great about pop. It also means hating yourself."
