That's quite an enormous task, Sys. I shall be content for now with picking on others.
In reply to:
[Sysiyo]03. Look Back In Anger (1988 rerecording) Released on Rykodisc Lodger.
It amazes me how somebody can actually find this abysmal version good in any way. The original is among Bowie's top ten, but that rerecording... bah, am I trying to argue with someone who likes NLMD? Forget it.
In reply to:
9. Subterraneans (Demo) 1975 outtake from aborted The Man Who Fell to Earth soundtrack. [Adam]
of course we want all of that. But we can't list songs that we cannot even name, of course. In my world, this is the most precious of all unreleased Bowie recordings... I so wonder whether there actually exists a recording in the physical world or whether the tapes are somehow destroyed or lost.
In reply to:
13. Inside 1995 outtake from Outside. A long operatic piece never edited to a 'reasonable length'. [Adam]
well, poorsould beat me to it... you would have to encode the songs in RealAudio format in order to have a chance to cram all that onto a compact disc.
In reply to:
[emilio] 1) 1984-Dodo (1980 Floor Show)
You can't be serious, that performance is abysmal. At least the backing choir is, well, not performing at the top of their capacity, which is a complete turn-off for me. (We may, of course, imagine that this is overdubbed at the mixing stage of the compilation.)

I think it would be nice if the first disc could be studio-recordings, and the second one live-recordings. I couldn't come up with more than 13 live tracks. And I guess some of my selections aren't that rare... Still, I think this is a cool structure for a bootleg release.
DAVID BOWIE - MEGA MILLENIUM RARE COLLECTION 2004 (STUDIO/LIVE)
DISC ONE - STUDIO: 1. Some Are 2. Hop Frog 3. Tired Of My Life 4. Candidate (Demo) 5. Shadowman (old version) 6. A Foggy Day (In London Town) 7. Right On Mother 8. Looking For A Friend 9. Nature Boy (orchestra version) 10. Pictures Of Lily 11. We Shall Go To Town 12. Because I'm Young 13. Bombers 14. Crystal Japan 15. Peace On Earth/Little Drummer Boy
DISC TWO - LIVE: 1. Hurt (with Nine Inch Nails) 2. The Jean Genie (with Jeff Beck) 3. My Death (recent version with only Mike Garson) 4. Imagine 5. Dirty Blvd. (with Lou Reed) 6. Sister Midnight (live 76) 7. Here Today, Gone Tomorrow 8. Without You I'm Nothing (with Placebo) 9. America 10. Medley (with Cher) 11. Let's Dance (recent live-version) 12. Reptile (with Nine Inch Nails) 13. Quicksand (from Bowie unplugged bootleg)

What can I say... I like the based, simplistic approach of the rerecording. In fact I think it's miles better than the original. Like Micholas Pegg (I think) once said, it takes the best of both NLMD and TM1 with none of their fairlures.

How about the acoustic country version of Scary Monsters from 1997? Also, there is a great version of Nite Flights available from the Outside tour that would make a good addition...

LBIA rerecording shouldn't have been on the Lodger reissue... they should've just stuck Alabama Song next to I Pray Ole and be done with. LBIA sonically needs to have been in Tin Machine as an extra track, in place of the pointless Country Bus Stop!
When will these record labels learn?
This strand is interesting... but I think you're missing the point that some of them will be on S+V.

Ah, I had completely forgotten about the re-issue of S+V. I quess that list needs to be reworked... later.

?? I assume you mean the 12-minute version? Remember,m that has never been proven to exist except as a fake version on bootlegs. In all propability no real extended version of the song exists.

Compiling this list is quite a HEAVY task… but fine, I have finally put together my version! I included ratings as well, they vary between 1 and 5 (where, naturally, I’m not including anything with less than 3 smilies).
CD1
1. Baby loves that way The B-side from this 1965 single is so fun.
2. April’s tooth of gold Few of us would have guessed that such an ultra-rarity could hold any musical qualities – we were pleasantly surprised. Not an absolute classic, but surely passable, which cannot be said about all 1968 demos.
3. When I’m five (guitar demo) same session as April’s tooth of gold
4. When I’m five (Love you till Tuesday version)
5. Let me sleep beside you The LYTT version – also intended for a single - is much more groovy than the acoustic reworking he gave it later.
6. Man in the middle Arnold Corns single.
7. Holy holy I want the cool version with backward echoes and stuff.
8. Bombers A fun little piece.
9. John, I’m only dancing mix as on ryko reissue of Ziggy…that’s the sax mix, right, or am I confusing things now?
10. My death That’ll have to be a live version – say, from Santa Monica, unless there exists a studio recording somewhere.
11. Zion That would have to be a finished version with lyrics. It probably doesn’t exist.
12. Amsterdam
13. Candidate demo Lyrically this is sub-par, but the melody is beautiful.
14. Here today, gone tomorrow
15. It’s gonna be me
CD2
1. Some are
2. All saints
3. Abdulmajid
4. Crystal Japan
5. Alabama song
6. Cat people (soundtrack version.)
7. Absolute beginners
8. Debaser Frankly I’ve never heard this Pixies cover, but I’m sure I would like it!
9. Amlapura (indonesian version)
10. Leon This is the best piece of the Outside/inside outtakes leaked to the public last spring.
11. Truth Bowie vocals on a Goldie song. Does it count?
12. Seven years in Tibet (mandarin version)
13. Planet of dreams
14. Safe Wouldn’t have anything against hearing the demo version from 1988.
15. Wood Jackson The best Heathen song hidden on a B side! WHY?

A superior sound-quality version exists from New York, Carnegie Hall 28.09.72. It can be found on the Bootleg Absolutely Rare.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't Reeves say the correct title for this is "The Enemy Is Fragile"?

Why not?
