Peter Finch

Everyone knows that Richard Fairbrass from Right Said Fred played pretend bass in the Blue Jean video, but can anyone confirm or deny that the bloke who plays Finchy from The Office plays guitar in the band scenes in the jump They Say video. Look carefully!

I'm guessing none of the non-UK people know who Finchy is... and those that do have more taste than to have the Jump They Say video??

The Office was boring and I have no idea who Finchy is - was he the one always sucking up to the boss that everyone hated?

Anyone who dislikes the Jump They Say video has poor taste.

Re: Peter Finch new [re: poorsoul]

I totally agree with you,The Office is/was boring,I was viewing a BBC promotion for Christmas television shows the other morning,It was showing us what to look forward to?lol,The only programe that two critics came up with?,Was indeed The Office,Thats supposed to be the hi-lite on BBC television this year ARGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!,This programe is useless/boring and middle class junk,Its popular only by being trendy to view.
The offending programe should be tape wiped and utterly destroyed.
I do like the "Jump They Say" video though,The images are very 1960s.

That must be a first. Were you praising The League Of Gentlemen in another thread? If so, I'd have to agree with you there, too, although I didn't think the third series was quite as good as the first two. Other good recent comedies (because just saying Monty Python is cheating) include Coupling, Black Books - and what was that hospital one with cameos from Tim Brook-Taylor?

Re: That's Funny new [re: poorsoul]

Yes indeedy Poorsoul we are agreed,Is this HIStory in the making? lol.Yes i LOve "The League of Gentlemen",It was indeed very funny and highly original,Alas as you say!,The third season was poor in comparison,Have you ever seen the Live DVD at Drury Lane?,That is very funny,I also did'nt go much on that Christmas special they had out a couple of years back now,Thought it was tired and contrived. The characters!,All of them have such wonderful seedy backgrounds LOL,Its difficult to pick favs really?,But i must include the frustrated lesbian Pauline with her pens LOL and Tubbs( poor cow lol),Babs cabs has me in stiches lol,All that talk of him waiting for his operation,When he talks to his passengers about Thursday being The BIGGY OP LOL,Classic BBC comedy.
I did enjoy Bo-Selecta until that chronic Crimbo song,I actually thought he was taking the genuine rize out of his characters,Until i saw that dreadful Crimbo trash with Sir Bob Geldof resemebling Val Donican,Please take it off lol.
As for new sitcoms?,I cannot actually think of one?,Although i do enjoy Paul Merton and room 101,Other than that?,Im sorry to say that British television is chronic now...
MERRY CHRISTMAS

hahaha new [re: poorsoul]

I quite like Black Books, though Coupling is just awful comedy-by-numbers. Spaced is definitely worth a look for anyone who likes things like Black Books.

If you like League Of Gentlemen, look out for a comedy called Little Britain. It's rather similar but a lot funnier, featuring Matt Lucas who plays George Dawes on Shooting Stars. Which you've probably never heard of.

Mind you, not liking The Office means you're probably a lost cause...

Ha! Iíd forgotten about Spaced. Yes, brilliant.

poorsoul is an Aussie, jonny, and since, bizarrely, none of Vic and Bobís TV work ever made it to Aussie screens (apart from the none-too-bad remake of Randall and Hopkirk (Deceased)) he probably wonít know who George Dawes is. And I agree Ė not liking The Office is peculiar.

How do they live? Have you seen any of the later series of Shooting stars with Will Self replacing Mark Lamarr and Johnny Vegas as a second regular on Ulrika's team? They're even funnier than the old ones.

Oh, and russelmael: It's Chris Finch, not Peter.

Upon first inspection, perhaps, but I think its glossy exterior belies the skillful writing that makes it worth watching.

Re: Peter Finch new [re: russellmael]

Some of us in the USA have BBC America on our cable systems. I have tried to watch The Office, but I too found it boring. It is apparently going to be remade as an American version, so I guess there must be something good about it.

I love Coupling.

It probably helps to be British, because most Brits have encountered people like that. It's unique in that the comedy is excrutiatingly cringe-inducing (like when they have the party for the Swindon lot and he keeps telling that racist joke). The only thing that ever came remotely close to that was Fawlty Towers, but even then, although we were also laughing at Basil, we weren't embarrassed for him.

Yeah, and allegedly Brad Pitt wants to play the David Brent character. I don't know, I can't see it myself.

I've actually watched them all (they were on while I was in university and had time on my hands...) and I thought they were at best OK but mainly awful. They're just too formulaic. The worst thing is that the performances are absolute crap. Except for Richard Coyle, he was funny.

I think they're going to do one more series. I think that's a good idea: Tim and Daisy really ought to get together. So should Mike and Brian.

I'm assuming he played Geoff, since the other two males are fairly straight characters. Of course I disagree with you but, from what I've heard about the American version, you'd hate it even more. They used the same scripts, just with American actors - who really couldn't act.

In reply to:

The last one seemed like they were running out of ideas and divulging too much in the dramatic side of things. Of course it's possible that a new one would offer an improvement, though.

At the time, I put it down to the fact that I hadn't seen the series for so long that I'd forgotten who the characters were (I didn't understand what Papa Lazaroo was about, for instance). You're probably right, though.

Look out for these, they're the last ever episodes of the show. The same brilliant observation of painful embarrasment and tragic-comedy but with added resolution! What happens to Finchy is particularly satisfying!

Yeah, quite brilliant. The fact that they knew these were going to be the last episodes ever meant they could really go for it.

The Tim/Dawn resolution was predictable but none the less sweeter for it.

I hope I never see the American remake.

Indeed. I almost shed a tear when her and Lee left the party as Tim watched wistfully, especially when she didn't look back as every viewer must have been expecting her to. But when she walked back in again...I'm not ashamed to say I lost it. In fact I'm tearing-up now just thinking about it. Aaaaaaahhhhhhhhh.
