Really, it all depends on what time zone you're in and what time zone he's in.
Which is why all of you should convert to metric time.

Ah, if only rotational motion could be measured in base 10.
This is Dukewhite's Signature Side 2, hence it contains no words

I always thought of it as in the evening. I'm usually not awake yet at that time in the morning. If I had a sleepless night, I probably would have finally fallen asleep by then. If I am awake, there would be good reason for it, like having to be at work or something... in which case I wouldn't have time to sit around thinking about how I'm still alive.
Now the evening, on the other hand, is the perfect time to be contemplative.

I suppose it depends on what you understand by "on" in "We should be on by now". I tend to take it to mean "on stage", so it would be 9.25 pm. By the way, Reality concerts beginning at 8 pm, at least in Europe, Bowie took to the stage between 9.15 and 9.20. So at 9.25 he should indeed be on.

thank you very much. i was never away, though. i read the boards every day i just post so very rarely
but i had a very beautiful night this week-end greeting the wintery sunrise, then having a morning walk through my city and i was still awake at 9:25 - - so i thought maybe this is what bowie's singing about (well, my thought's weren't THAT linear, but i can't find a better written shape for them)

Having been awake for the best part of 40 odd hours now, there's no reason why he couldn't be referring to the 9:25pm of the second night he's awake. (Well, that's an alternative interpretation. )
I'm not sure whether it's relevant for Aladdin Sane, but I think I'm right in saying that Bowie's cocaine consumption allowed him to stay awake for several days at a time.

That's exactly what I was thinking, although with 9:25 of the following morning (so he'd have been awake for something like 24 hours).
As for 5:15, I get the distinct impression that it refers to the evening (since I've never known of a train running that early in the morning and especially since it's overdue), although there is certainly enough room to interpret it otherwise.
