You mean downright shit. I'm disappointed, there is so much good stuff from these set of albums, so why give us one measly bonus track on Outside??? One????

weak. definately weak. where is the drum 'n bass version of Bring me the Disco King on Earthling? And how about a "Live Inside" bonus disc to accompany Outside? C'mon Bowie, don't shit on your fans so late in the game. You're on a roll, keep the goods flowin'...

That´s what I call a genuine ripoff!
Let´s see now, they reissued all three of them few months ago and now they assume us to buy them again for few crappy bonustracks. If the reissues had indeed been two disc editions I for one would have been thrilled (except for Earthling) but now i´m just somewhat annoyed.
Maybe he´s sparing those other tracks for 30th anniversary editions?

I hope they believe that the potential public for those reissues will be among those who didn't buy it at their original release, AND sugared them with some bonus tracks just to push the products sales. But, if this releases are fan-targeted, then they (the record company, etc.) are obviously very stupid people.

But if we don't go out and buy these reissues, the record company will think there isn't enoght demand for rarities and won't issue any more.

By releasing a couple bonus tracks, Bowie must be attempting to court album reviews/revisions/revisits from music mags. Otherwise, they would only be treated like other re-releases and left (mostly) ignored by causal DB fans.

Hmmm.... I would have much rather preferred the earlier plan of a 2nd bonus disc with each re-release.

There's no way I'm going to buy 1. Outside again just for the song "Get Real."

Earthling gets four extra songs, but unfortunately they're all remixes, so I'll probably skip that one too.

I'll buy hours... for sure though. It seems worth it for five extra tracks, especially since it is already my favorite modern Bowie album. (I was a big fan of Omikron: Nomad Soul)

The question is, if they'd put only one bonus track on Outside, why put in Get Real instead of the muchly superior Nothing To Be Desired?

Nothing To Be Desired would be a better choice. Or something from 2. Contamination

Re: official word, tracks, release dates for reissues new [re: jabow]

That would be impossible, since 2. Contamination was never recorded. They could, however, have used some of the 1. Outside outtakes (which you probably meant by Contamination). Preferrably something we haven't heard. Of the material we've heard I would have used The Enemy Is Fragile.

Maybe it's so they can simply repackage the Japanese release. I agree that Nothing To Be Desired would have been a better choice but there's so much other material they should've included that it's hard to pick just one song.

Re: Sent new [re: poorsoul]

Well, since Bowie is apparently reluctant to include any stuff that wasn't previously released, then the bonus track would either be Get Real, Nothing To Be Desired or one of the remixes. Of that group, I'd choose NTBD.

Re: Sent new [re: Sysiyo]

It depends what you consider to be previously released. The Black Tie White Noise rerelease, for instance, included several tracks that had only been available on promos or vinyl (or vinyl promos) so, in a sense, some of them hadn't been commercially released before. And if the promise of the 2CD editions had been kept, there would've been a few similar tracks, like The Hearts Filthy Lesson (Good Karma Mix). From that perspective, even Nothing To Be Desired is a rather weak choice.

Well this version of the song is much better than any other including the album version. It's got the guitar riff up loud and doesn't start with the backing vocals doing the chorus.

Re: Sent new [re: poorsoul]

I admit to all points... my main point being that (IMHO) it's better to include a song that's not on the album than a remix of one of the album tracks, if there is to be only one bonus track. Of course, they should all be included, but that does not seem to be an option.

Normally I'd agree but in this case I'd much rather have a superior remix, like The Hearts Filthy Lesson (Rubber Mix), than an average outtake. If the chosen outtake had been The Enemy Is Fragile, though...

Considering they are only from the last ten years, i cannot foresee a drastic change in the sound myself. If the packaging isn't up to much I won't get them, especially as some sources still quote the 2 disc sets being released at some point.

Resound new [re: pablopicasso]

The sound quality will undoubtedly be louder. Listen to CD's starting from the early 80's, you'll notice that the main change is not the sound quality (although that has improved, too) but the 'default' volume in which the CD has been pressed.

Re: Resound new [re: Sysiyo]

Indeed. It was coomon practise to let CDs peak at -10dB to protect audio equipment. They seem to be using the CD's full dynamic range these days. The result is louder CDs, but will they enhance the dynamic range or just push the volume up?

But hey, those re-issues seem to be another missed opportunity.

Re: official word, tracks, release dates for reissues new [re: Ninhead]

Let's face it: ever since Rykodisc lost the rights over David's catalog, each and every reissue has been a disappointment. I've stopped holding my breath for reissues a long time ago (I can't hold my breath that long, anyway...). Neither David nor any major label is ever going to give us what we really want. I was surprised by the inclusion of some rare television appearances on the "Best of Bowie" DVD. The "Bowie at the Beeb" package was not what it could have been, but it was OK (especially the bonus disc). Apart from those, nothing really interesting has come from the vaults.

Just plain experimenting. I have ahabit of burning compilation CD's of different material. One of them had Cat People from the original 1982 MCA CD followed by Let's Dance from the 1999 EMI CD. I have to crank up the volume to hear Cat People and then push it down for Let's Dance.

Another example is a compilation disc I burned from a friend's Bowie singles. It has trans starting from Real Cool World and ending with 1917. When listening to it, you don't notice it but the volume get's louder by each new release. When put on repeat, the difference in loudness between 1917 and Real Cool World is noticeable.
