What was the *last* Bowie album you bought? new

I know most of you will say "Reality!", but that isn't what I am interested in :-)

I have been slowly catching up on Bowie's back catalogue, and after a long break, have finally got the last album to complete the "set"; Aladdin Sane.

What was the last album you got to complete the "set"? Any particular reason for that one being the last?

Trev.

I still need Let's Dance, Tonight, and Never Let Me Down (and TM2...I bought TM for cheap at a used record store)

Can't say I'm too psyched to make those purchases, although I know that I will.

um, of the back catalogue stuff, I think it was Lodger, purely for the fact that I didn't recognise many of the songs on there, and thus didn't buy it earlier.

i recently picked up tonight on vinyl for $4 ... i thought that was reasonable considering it does have loving the alien, blue jean and neighborhood threat...plus decently cool album cover... on cd i picked up 30th anniversary aladdin even tho i already had the virgin remaster.... also i caved and bought NLMD on cd just to analyze the alleged Reality comparisons.... before that it was Heathen and Space Oddity... oh, recently i picked up a 2LP live bootleg-ish thing called Live Dance? has anyone heard this?

Unfinished Collection new [re: trevorgensch]

I still don稚 have any of the following:

David Bowie
Space Oddity
The Man Who Sold the World
Pinups
Let痴 Dance
Tonight
Never Let Me Down
Tin Machine
Tin Machine 2
Black Tie, White Noise
The Buddha of Suburbia

I知 not sure which one of these I値l get next. I already bought the Bowie albums that I REALLY wanted, and I assume that I already have all of his best, so I知 in no hurry to fill in the remaining gaps right away. I知 sure I値l get to these eventually though.

this week I got.... new [re: trevorgensch]

Well, this week I completed my Studio Album cd collection - I finally bought NLMD! I needed Zeroes for a compilation and it was only $8.99 (about US$5). It's been that price for ages, but I have it on tape already for my car, and on vinyl which I still listen to occasionally so I didn't need it on cd till now.
I dont' have Ziggy Motion Picture on cd, it's the only album (besides the Early Years and Labyrinth) that I don't own on cd now.

I love dance music but am a bit disappointed in Club Bowie, no really great remixes like the Brothers in Rythym mix of Without You I'm Nothing (that ROCKS!). But I'm still listening to it nonetheless, it's not that bad.

My last purchase was David Live on ebay last week. Now got all studio and live albums.

Currently collecting the old Rykos. Need three more to complete the set (Station To Station, TMWSTW, Space Oddity).

Then I'll start hunting down the singles I haven't got. I don't collect vinyl, only CD, but at the stage where all my Bowie shopping has to be done on-line.

I bought the "Showgirls" soundtrack last night and "MainMan" a Mick Ronson compilation. The Last "proper" Bowie album I bought was the 1999 24bit Pin ups, to complete the set, it was last because i couldn't find that many copies on eBay and I didn't want to spend too much on it. I just had Manchester 2003 drop onto my carpet now as well. I have doubled my collection since September 03.

Re: What was the *last* Bowie album you bought? new [re: trevorgensch]

The last album I bought when I was building up my collection was Space Oddity. Partly because I knew it was one of Bowie's least interesting ones; I started out with getting the good ones, namely Heroes, Ziggy and DD. This was back in 1985, after that I of course bought them all as they came out. Studio album, that is; I didn't get Stage until much later and I also waited a long time with Oy vey, baby until I found it for free. And Ziggy MoPic I didn't get until the reissue last year. (I remember seeing the original LP on sale for 20SEK=$2:50 and thinking, "I already heard the songs"! Bah, what a mistake.)

Everybody... Of all the posts in this forum, this particular post will remain with me the longest.

The Final Straw new [re: trevorgensch]

The last album I bought at the point in time when I first was level with all regular Bowie releases was Scary Monsters in vinyl. From then on it was only adding his latest relase time after time. Oh, that is except "Labyrinth" which I never bought and will only accept as a present. Nothing to waste money on. Or say, not more than 2 .

I am not a completist though and I do not buy compilations, mixes and re-releases just for the sake of having the word Bowie written on it. I'll certainly give the BTWN re-release a miss as the original album is mediocre enough and I already have the original interactive CD-Rom. The Club album is also very likely to not appear on my shelves.

And I want to believe

David Live I got for 45 quid, which ranks third in my all time most barmiest Bowie purchases. (1sr=original Sound And Version CD set @」50 imported from America, 2nd=Stage CD 」50)

I've seen Space Oddity and TMWSTW Rykos on auction from the same seller which i may well bid on as well if i'm feeling flush.

I actually quite like the album, as the world falls down is so pretty, Magic dance is brilliant, the title track is ok, without you and chilly down aren't that great, but it's bowie, ya know. I bought it in '86 when it came out and lover some of trevor jones' work too. Got it on cd a few years ago, hardly play it but it's an integral part of my collection.

You most certainly got a real bargain on those Ryko CDs at that market.Tis a pity theres NO markets like that here in Norwich,Oh well back to ebay it is lol.
TMWSTW comes with a great cover insert,It allows you pick from several covers that album has had,I still think the best cover is the B/W one with Bowie doing that iconic Kick.

That was at least four years ago and it was "Buddha of Suburbia." It took awhile to track it down and for it to arrive via the UK. I was happy to finally have it indeed.

I've been collecting his releases since 1975. I still have a lot of his best on vinyl only. In other words, I have the majority of his catalogue, but not in a completist sense. I don't really get that deep into any artist. Not enough time or money.

If you've got Never Let Me Down, you might as well go for Tonight, too. I'd recommend holding out for the Virgin rerelease with the bonus tracks, since This Is Not America is a favourite of mine and a lot of other people seem to like Absolute Beginners. As The World Falls Down would also give you a taste for one of the better songs from Labyrinth.

If you really like the sound of Ziggy Stardust, you're more likely to enjoy Pinups but a lot of people see it as his least essential release. Tin Machine II you should definitely get, though, if for no other reason that its scarcity. At any rate, it really is a lot better than Tin Machine's first effort.

And I'll propably end up getting Pin Ups and Tin Machine II also. Does anyone know anything about this CD?

Anyway, that was the last addition. Being a poor college student (and having an expensive road trip coming up) I haven't the funds to keep increasing my collection...but I would like very much to have all of them...sigh.

Just what do you mean by"obvious reasons" Sys?,Do you mean you consider it a not very good album?.Im often confused by fans reasons to leave this album"Pinups"to last?,Im sure you'll agree that upon listening to it?,Its a very good album eh?.

As for buying it, it had very little that interested me, so I got the more interesting stuff first. And upon listening to it, I think it's rubbish, right down there with The Man Who Sold The World, Reality and Hunky Dory.

Well considering they use the word limited on many CD and DVD releases,It must play some part in your purchasing?

I purchased it because I'm one of those stupid completests. There was nothing on it I didn't already have. It does come in a pretty package though, eh?

If you don't have anything nice to say, go to London and say it in front of 2000 people. NM.

Limited question for yous folk new [re: Tristan]

I've never been a hardcore collector of limited editions or anything specifically, so I don't know much. However, aren't so-called "limited editions" identified as such by being numbered?

I don't have any Bowie titles to refer to, but was gifted with a Grateful Dead limited edition, which is #00136 (assuming out of 10,000 total). ???

Not always. A true limited edition will be (and they are usually restricted to about 10,000 copies) but sometimes they'll be given a longer run but one that will eventually be superceded by a standard pressing. The 2CD version of Heathen, for example, is becoming somewhat harder to find and will, eventually, be almost impossible to buy new. However, the standard edition will be around for many more years to come.

Que? new [re: diamondogz74]

In reply to:

I didn't know there was a Spanish performing version of "Day-In Day-Out"

It's called Al Alba and it sounds really bad because it was recorded from a Spanish radio transmission. Unfortunately (or perhaps not), the master tape was destroyed so that low quality copy is likely to remain the only one available.

Lodger new [re: trevorgensch]

The last Bowie album a bought was Lodger, a couple of weeks ago. I had put off buying it because I had heard most of the songs and thought I had the gist of it, but I was pleasantly surprised at how wonderful and experimental it is.

For me it was Tin Machine 2 that completed the back catalogue.
"Baby Universal" is really quite good! The rest...well...it's not as bad as I thought but musically not so interesting.

Actually, last year an mp3 is superior sound quality and without the DJ overdubs from the spanish DJ did surface. So it's a bit uncertain if the tape was destroyed.

It's also interesting to note that the translation of the track was done by Carlos Alomar.

Although it's known everywhere as Al Alba.

Yes i agree Tristan it does come in a beautifully designed package ( if only more Bowie releases were to be as well designed?),So you mention that you had all the material already?,But surely you did'nt have the DVD content did you?.
And i agree being a completest myself is darn hard work at times and very expensive.Im left wondering why the American release of BTWN special edition was so highly priced?.

BTWN Special or Ltd. Edition new [re: diamondogz74]

In reply to:

But surely you did'nt have the DVD content did you?

Actually I did, twice. In 1993 it was shown on the Disney channel here in the States and I recorded it. Later that year it came out commercially on video tape and I bought it. Now with the DVD I have 3 copies.

In reply to:

Im left wondering why the American release of BTWN special edition was so highly priced?

At $31.99 it was a much better buy than Club Bowie at $22.99. 2CDs + DVD compared to 1CD.
I'm more curious as to why it came out here 6 months later than in Europe. Being the great super power that we are, aren't we supposed to get things first.

Lucky you with it being on the Disney channel all those years ago, When you compare it to the dreadful ( in my umble opinion Club Bowie ),I can see your reasoning very well. I really did'nt enjoy buying Club Bowie, But its in the set now i guess?.
It duznt even resemble a Bowie album,Its loud and cheap.

Anyone who commits themselves as an appreciator of Bowie's work and goes on to regard 'The Man Who Sold The World' & 'Hunky Dory' as inferior works is either being derisive or a complete and utter tool.

Sysiyo?

I suggest that you are a tool.
