oh, and let's not forget the cool freakin' billion dollars he has stuffed in an economy sized mattress somewhere...in switzerland probably.

Re: Bowie's Bling new [re: Nature_Boy]

My understanding is he currently only owns one home (the apartment he lives in in NYC), one car (an old Jaguar in British Racing Green), a butload of art (including a a prized Tintoretto piece and a "small Reubens"), tons of books (including many rare first editions) and an entire mountain in NY.

I've always wondered what else is in his art collection. As an art lover and collector myself (although my collection is local artists and outsider art--no Tintorettos or Reubens here), I've always wanted to know if he has any Basquiat paintings. Given his love of art, his friendship with Julian Schnabel, and his role in Schnabel's Basquiat movie, I'd love to know. He should open a museum--that would be interesting.

Overall, though, Bowie is not a flashy guy in how he spends his money. I admire that. He does with it what pleases HIM--not what he thinks will look cool when others look at his life from the outside in. When you're David Bowie, you don't need to impress anyone. I like that about him.

Take that, Puff Daddy!!!!! new [re: zigbot]

Bowie had Kostabi and Warhol make custom portrait paintings for DB.

Bowie once mentioned being a collector of ManRay photographs and owns some os his original photographic equipment.

A couple years ago Syd Barrett released a very limited edition signedrun of art artbook at $1000 a piece. Bowie bought 12 sight unseen. I'm assuming he may have given some away.

Bowie owns some original Little Richard 50's memorabilia, including stage costums.

I would think Iman has all of the jewelry. Aside from a wedding ring a cross around his neck and the occasional earring I've never seen him wear anything.

I imagine Bowie owning several hundred proper suits. Some he gets for free and others he spends handsomely. In one 93 tv interview he mentioned wearing a original 1940's suits that had some history to it. I don't know much more except that NYC, LA and other major citied are going to have incredible collection of one of a kind clothing that would cater to people like David. While he does a number of premiers, he dressing quite modestly when in "casual/offstage mode" What's odd to me, is that he has worn the same cheap-looking neon watch since 98(?)

Bowie has mentioned a number of times that he considers money to be visceral. he likes to see how he can make manipulate money, make it multiply, see how it can specifically help others(like investing in broadway plays). This is a man who prefered to twist his resources around to reaquire full rights over his invaluable back catalogue. There would not be one aging rocker who is not completely jealous of Bowie's situation.(Prince, take note)

Something that was skipped over in this thread was the fact that Bowie is a technology junkie. If it has any application to entertainment or culture, DB owns and knows how to use one.

I'm sure Bowie's book and music collection is nothing to scoff at. This is a man who used to bring along 400 books on his 2-3 month tours. Who reads anywhere near that amount?

Ha! Join the club, BFP!

I am certain Bowie's art, book, and music collections are nothing to scoff at. I read or heard somewhere a while back that he made some sort of list of "prominent art collectors." I'd love a tour of the Bowie museum.

Hey, here's what I REALLY wonder, though: What kind of stuff does Lexi have? I gather she is NOT one of those ultra-spoiled kids with rooms and rooms full of toys and a closet full of Baby Prada wear. Iman has publically denounced "designer" children's clothes, saying "what is Burberry going to do for her except spoil her?" She also has stated that when little Lexi says she "needs" something, Iman gives her a lecture on the difference between "need" and "want." I bet Lexi is wearing sweaters Iman knits for her and Gap and Old Navy clothing, like any other kid in the nation--and that ought to make it that much easier for her to blend in at school and not be singled out as the "rich kid" or the "rock star's kid." Which, for reasons of personal safety (and other good reasons--like wanting to raise a child who does NOT grow up to be a stuck up brat), is good. I gather Lexi is the anti-Lourdes. Madonna even employs a full-time "stylist" to outfit her daughter in the latest Prada kids wear.

David and Iman seem pretty down to Earth given their wealth. Oh, and I like his neon watch. I think it's designed by Paul Smith, and it isn't as "cheap" as you might think it looks, BFP. I, personally, have owned the same watch since 1983--I like it, I wear it, and it is the only watch I own. Usually, I also carry around one purse, until it looks terrible and I buy a new one. I'm not one of these people with a different watch and handbag for each outfit. Most of my women friends are shocked at how comparatively few clothes and shoes I own compared to them. I like nice stuff, so I buy a few items I find beautiful rather than a closet full of mediocre crap. Many people are like that, and I kind of like that David seems a bit like that despite the fact that he can afford to buy a hell of a lot more stuff than he does. I think it also tells you that he's happy. Some of the unhappiest people I know are the ones who spend all their money--or, worse yet, over-spend beyond their means--as some sort of "retail therapy" to put a salve on what wounds them in life.

Ah, so that’s why I heard "Changes” being used on a Fidelity retirement plan commercial while watching Meet the Press this past Sunday morning … he must have had another mountain payment to make.
