Audi/Bowie Mash up
|
|
|
Hello.
Over at BowieNet, there is a section that takes you to the Audi homepage. You can sample the new 'Rebel Never Get Old' track, situated on the link that allows you to view the new advert (Quick time i think!?). Also there is a chance to enter your own version of a DB mash up. Winners could receive an Audi TT I personally didn't like the 'Rebel Never Gets Old' But just thought i'd mention it for those who have yet to hear it.
Thank you

Nice one Max_m
Great lil video clip, the title "Rebel Never Gets Old" is really very ironic, there's bags of life in him yet eh?

If you go to
http://www.neverfollow.com/flash.html (click on Bowie...)
and then click on the first little icon in the bottom left, you have the option to listen to the whole track. I think you get a much better idea than with the video clip. You can scroll along the other icons to see other Bowie facts and photos.. ..there are also a couple of backstage clips in there somewhere which are interesting.

It's not as bad as I thought it would be, but if they release this as a single instead of the normal version of Never Get Old then I think that's a bit of a cop-out, relying too much on his past to increase sales. I am reminded of the terrible "Fame 90"
The general public will also find it confusing if they haven't heard the original Never Get Old. I don't think it will be released.

According to Bowienet, it is being released the week of April 12th. (Check the News under April 7th for more information.)

Is it just me, or do they simply switch between the two tracks without actually them ever overlapping?

It's just you ;)
What they used on the commercial doesn't have the songs overlapping. The remix on the other hand (which is NOT the same version as the commercial, was inspired by it in fact) does have the songs overlapping. Listen to the remix on the link HopFrog provided.

Personally, I find this to be a great new song. I really like the mash-up idea.
In reply to:

Never Get Old was released as a single together with Love Missile F1-11, but unfortunately it was only released in Japan.

Oh, and I forgot to ask: does anybody know if there will be any other songs on the single, or will it be just one track? On Bowienet they mentioned that they have a few mixes completed, but they haven't stated how many will actually be on the single.

isn't this the general idea of a mashup? making those switches seamless is waay harder than one may think though (anyone participating in the bnet mashup contest?)

I was going to mix Strangers When We Meet and Speed of Life but eventually I was all like "too hard, dude" and quit.
I'll be appearing LIVE in London May 14th. Sure, it's a David Bowie show but you're all coming to see me. More importantly, you're coming to see me in my awesome new pants.

It was with Waterloo Sunset and it didn't get passed the promo stage sadly.

Except Waterloo Sunset was already available on the Japanese edition of Reality, so Love Missile F1-11 was chosen instead.

I have often thought about a mash-up with
Strangers when we meet and It's no game, also another song with the same sound was in there but i can't think of its name right now!

The whole idea sucks. I'm listening to it right now and it doesn't matter if it's good or it isn't. And I'm not the kind of guy who uses to turn my finger down to everything that Bowie has done recently, as many TWers do. I mean, I think Reality is great and everything, but this is too much. This is low. PS: It has just ended (the track, I mean). And not only the idea suck.
I'll be a rocknrollin' bitch...

Of course, the mistake is understandable as the planned but then shelwed international edition was to have included Waterloo Sunset as the B-side.

I think the whole idea is just a bit of fun....someone probebly aproched bowie and said "can i do this to your songs"? and he goes "yea why not mate"?...."do I get the royalties"? hehe well anyway when i saw the comp i though yes......this sounds like a good way to get a new car.; P Im on my second mash up, im hopeing to do 2-3 a week, you should all have a go, its amazing what ya can create.
THAT IS NOT LOGICAL CAPTAIN!

oh dear, i might be WAY out of anachronicity then - i may have assumed a 'mash-up' was a 'mix'.
Yeah, i've put in for the audi TT (it's my favrite car). however, the first software you download, a lot of the clever things, like downloading from a CD (necessary unless u use the given v. short samples of bowie songs, one must b from reality) when u click them u get a little message saying it's not on, but if you upgrade and pay u get betta.
that's not really the point, cos i don't know the basic software very well, but i wouldn't mind inspiration to keep going!
so, on the basic software - can you ::::
1. keep the beat of one song, eg 150bpm, for some trax, and make the other tracks the original beat of the other song, eg 120bpm.
2. put the volume up and down for each track.
questions like that - if anyone's interested and can help i've got more!!!!
(deep purple are great, as usual - and the venue where they are, has a comp to win .. guess wot .. Audi's !!! A4's but ... nite)

No release yet. Per BNet, it's been pushed back to May and will be released in two formats (1) download, and (2) 12" disck, if I recall correctly. Not sure if such formats will allow the single to "count" for chart purposes (assuming enough people even buy it to support a chart appearance).

It's supposedly coming out as a single but after the treatment of the previous two efforts, it would be surprising if it did end up being a regular release. The cover art has been revealed, though:

cool. i somehow get the feeling bowie invented a new persona - the nihilistic artist. he has a huge output but refuses to release anything. unlike ziggy it's an introverted character this time and he starts a new era of invisible brilliance. the whole thing is made perfect by the absense of the Nihilistic Artist in his own videos.

And a 'promo' CD. Does anybody know if the CD will contain the same songs as on the 12" disc?
Here is the track listing and running times for the four-track picture disc:
A1: Radio Mix (3:25) A2: 7th Heaven Edit (4:17)
B1: 7th Heaven Mix (7:22) B2: Days (3:19) -from Bnet
And is the version of 'Days just off the Reality album?
