Right I understand your television being that of NTSC and your system runs on 525 lines, and the UK 625 lines PAL.
We can pop regional 1 DVDs into multi-regional players with NO hassle, why your system should seem to appear so awkard is beyond me ?
The reason I brougt this subject up again! was to help you you were asking in another post on this page about a region 1 Riverside concert.

It's quite simple really: Your tv can handle both NTSC and PAL formats while his doesn't. Most "European" televisions are built that way (atleast relatively new ones) while for some reason most American tv's don't support both standards. Don't ask me why though...

Absolutely. They probably see things with their DVD players of which we never have heard of and which outside the US only freed Iraqis and members of the coalition of the willing will get access to. Can I have a Green Card, please?

Isn't being a citizen of TW enough for you? Our flag is better than theirs for a start

Thanks Rabbit
Lord knows why american television sets and DVD players are so awkward
Perhaps its because their terrestrial television is broadcast on VHF instead of UHF, lets hope the digital broadcasting will stop all this silliness ?
Every time i've seen american television via film or taped news report or whatever ? it looks quite fuzzy and squiggly, i only hope american digital satellite is better quality, for their sakes.
Remember the plan of HD TV ?

Please accept my apologies dukewhite
I had NO idea your television system was that different or awkward, its a great shame really, i hope one day they sort out all this nonsense and have DVDs that play without all these regions and copy write laws.
Good luck with you hunting for the Riverside concert on region 1 DVD, its very good.

RE: HD TV and us mere mortals
Now how true this story is I really do not know ? but I know a chap ( a well respected hi-fi, television specialist ) he told me that Bush senior put the mockers ( as he calls it lol ) on HD TV when he was in power.
Apparently it was all down to BIG money and being lobbied as per usual.
Seems that the name Bush in political circles, stinks in america
