The mystery oldie is Changes! Appearing veeery casual, the band belted out David's career theme song as his opener. He wore a N.Y. black running jacket, over a t-shirt. Earl slick was dressed in a Levis jacket over equally casual attire. Gail was a fashion icon as always, sporting a red pants suit she stood out for the ladies. Well done gail! David was fabulous as always. The show is still ongoing. just wanted to post this for those of you who can't watch just yet. wolf in a trap

David danced to rebel Rebel with Ellen prior to chatting (yay!) He did the usual mime snips when prompted, talked about his religious explorations (tibetan budhism,nitzche,satanism,christianity-none of them worked). He was asked about his new campaign with Iman for Tommy Hilfiger (I had seen this mentioned on Good day live, but did not have a tape in the VCR, so I did not catch the company's name that time) "I thought they were passport pictures".(David and Iman frolicking on a bed). On his daughter "i'm 4 years old! no, you're 3 and 3/8 " on David's anniversary tommorrow "just paper in switzerland, the real one we celebrate is june 6th in milan. My mother told me if you invited guests, you get presents" just as on Rosie in 1999, everyone in the audience recieved a copy of Reality (like they need one, I bought 3 versions already) but a great gesture for the casual fan. Bowie returned to sing Never get old. This version was much sharper than the one on Leno, David pronounced every lyric with authority.Earl played his gibson goldtop. Perfect! For the "Big Finish" Ellen had promised all week, They all sat down to tea while a classical piano solo played over their quiet mumbling. I did make out that ellen told David he could talk on any subject he chose. (always commands the floor, don't he?).I could not tell if the piano was played by mike garson. All in all, a pre-noon delight.

Sounds lovely! I'm so bummed. I set my TiVo to record Ellen today, but just realized I set it to record Ellen on a channel that I don't even GET on my cable/satellite program. Damn TiVo! It lists ALL channels, even the ones you don't have! So I set it to record Ellen on some syndicated East Coast channel, instead of the Oxygen network! Crap!
Luckily, a very kind messageboard member has agreed to record the program for me and put it on DVD, so I will get to see it--eventually. I'm so bummed.
Sounds like a lovely time, though, and I love the stuff about precocious little Lexi INSISTING that she's already four! Priceless!

A lot of details were posted by someone on BowieNet yesterday, so I kind of knew what to expect ahead of time. You didn't mention that during the interview he talked extensively about "the bunny" that has been seated in the front row of several of his shows (a.k.a. Isabelle Guns), and how he even ran into her on the airplane once -- still dressed as the bunny!
On a side note, the piano solo played at the end was "Fur Elise" by Beethoven (it is one of my favorites), but I'm not sure who was playing it either.

Changes was pretty boring David has played that song to death. David looked like he just came from the gap store.

He looked a little bored with Changes which is why I didn't enjoy it as much as Never Get Old. He really got into that one, and I agree that the performance was better over all than the Leno one.
I loved watching the banter between Ellen and him! Their humor seemed to compliment each other, and I found myself cracking up. It was also amusing to see how he sort of took over the interview.
Is he going to be on any other talk shows since he's been on two in a row? I really enjoyed this one, and thank god Ellen actually interviewed him.

I claim no ownership of her. In fact, I disown her, regardless of Bowie's opinion of her, I think the whole bunny thing is stupid, as has been discussed at length before.
I'll be seeing YOU in New York, Detroit, Philadelphia, Boston, Kansas City, St. Louis, Wantagh, and Holmdel. So dress sharp.

I completely agree with your opinion on isabelleguns. As you stated, the whole concept is stupid, and I find it annoying that Bowie mentions it. Has anybody seen the picture of her with the band on BowieNet? She isn't even smiling.

Im as sick as the proverbial parrot
Tis NOT fair, we do not have Ellens show in the UK yet.
I liked the version of Never Get Old on Leno, what was so different from the one on Ellen, please ?
You say it was sharper, i actually liked the rather laid back version on Leno

Lets hope you get a chance to view it on a re-run of the show.
TiVo never really took off her, we have Sky +, which I guess is the same, recorded onto a hard drive.
Only problem with Sky + is, that you've only got to view something once, just the once mind you, and it seems to think that you want to view it for the rest of your life

That sucks, pianocraft. Janet was aired nationally on the 22nd. Perhaps in your market they are a day behind? You might try taping it on Monday. Or doing what patches suggested, which is to tape it off Oxygen next Friday.

I think it is a week delay on Oxygen due to Oxygen picking up Ellen so late in the game. They did the same thing for Absolutely Fabulous. Except those episodes were a 2 week delay.

Thanks for that info, dukewhite. That's what I was looking for, that Janet came on a day before Bowie. So Bowie will appear a day later, Monday, in my market.

i simply observed that, like his concerts, David appears to be more intense and in focus on some occasions rather than others. On the Leno show he was late getting to the mike at least once, and so did not sing all the lyrics to the song. On Ellen, not only did he avoid this faux pax, but he sang with greater intensity and inflection (in my opinion.) On a side note, I watched the ABC movie of the week tonight entitled "Almost Famous". It was about a 15 year old kid who tours with an american band in 1973 to write for Rolling Stone. It began in San Diego with Lester banks being intervied on radio. He said "give me White light/white heat.Oh! Iggy Pop!"As he pulled the Raw Power lp from the shelves and placed it on the turntable. "Isn't it a bit early for that?"said the d.j. as Search and Destroy began to play. Outside the studio, Lester meets up with the aspiring journalist and asks"do you like Lou Reed?" "he's trying to be Bowie right now.I think he should just be himself"came the reply.Impressed, Lester hooks him up with an assignment for Rolling Stone.Sent to interview Black Sabbath, he ends up touring with the support act, Still Water. At one point, one of the band members wears a Ziggy t-shirt (black). He is promised by his love interest that, if he goes to Chicago, she'll "introduce him to BOWIE and his bodyguard". When they get to Chicago, a throng of screaming fans are waiting for david with the Aladdin sane lp (one of them with full aladdin face make-up). Bowie's entrance is made(they all scream BOWIIE! and head for the elevator). Backstage with the band, Bowie's 1972 version of Waiting for the Man plays for a couple of minutes.
It was refreshing to see David treated with dignity in a movie about an american rock 'n' roll band. I enjoyed all the references. Just thought I'd pass it along to you.

Almost Famous was a big critical and popular success at the time of its release, including several Oscar nominations. I'm surprised you had not heard of it or seen it until now. I believe it came out in 2000. In any case, good to hear you liked it. That's a good overview you've given for anyone else who may not have seen it.
