Hearing Bowie in unusual places
|
|
|
I was in McDonalds this morning as I find their Sausage and Egg McMuffin meals are a great hang-over cure and I was shocked to hear "New Killer Star" playing. You'd expect Let's Dance maybe, but I was surprised to hear something so modern and obscure playing. I can only assume it was that Brit Awards compilation CD it's on.
Anyone else heard Bowie in any unusual/unexpected places?

We have piped music where I work and for years there was never any Bowie on it, but lately we have Ziggy Stardust, Young Americans, and a couple of others, which is always nice, kinda breaks the day up.
This remark might have a hint of irony in it, or it may not.

In the recent disney movie Confessions Of A Teenage Drama Queen the central character perfoms a show at her high school and does a medley of Stevie Wonder's Living For The City and David Bowie's Changes (though it's not on the soundtrack album).

In my local nightclubs' cheesy night they played Loving the Alien. I think I was more shocked that it wasn't Let's Dance.

Just the other week I was in a dentist's waiting room & the background music included Sense of Doubt.

While walking through the mall, I heard "Fashion" being played in American Egal Outfitters, my most hated store. For those of you who don't know, it's this completely overpriced store for preps and yuppies. I still loathe them and their ugly clothing, yet they have gone up a rung in my books. I would be surprised if anyone in that store could even manage to spell "Bowie".

I started work one Saturday and the second I walked out of the canteen to start my shift "Young Americans" started, followed by Absolute Beginners.
Cheered me up a bit :)
I also heard Young Americans in a local co-op store.

Only insofar as I've been forced to hear the horribly mangled instrumental version of Heroes they've been playing over the Wanadoo advert on UK tv recently.
Oh yes, and Ziggy Stardust in a pub a few days ago.

I agree. I've once walked by and heard Nirvana being played in there. I was ready to kill someone.

Sense of Doubt
That's probably the strangest I've heard. Most public places play songs like "Rebel Rebel" or "Let's Dance". One time, myself and a buddy of mine were in a grocery store and heard "Young Americans" being played. We later stopped in the same store a few weeks later to hear "China Girl". How weird is that?
