The gig was faked in NYC.

With Christiane F. faking it in Berlin and the shots later being clipped together.
Poor old Bowie, never met Marlene Dietrich during the "Gigolo" shooting as well.

Speaking of, I heard that the actual Christiane F. wrote an autobiography at some point. Does anyone know the title?
But then, why should I speak, since I know nothing.

As far as I know the English title is simply "Christiane F." while the original German title is: "Wir Kinder vom Bahnhof Zoo" (Us kids from Zoo Station).
The film was based on her book.
I wrote this a while ago in some other thread:
"Has nobody here read the book? It's superb and beats the film by miles (and solves the dubbing problems). The christiane f. Story is an amazing account of the City's atmosphere in those days (I wasn't living in Berlin then but went there as often as I could). The romantic drug horror of the book did touch everybody I knew. Most knew how to deal with it - some did not.
I saw the film only once, when it came out, but as usual it did not reach the book's fascination.
All of you: READ THE book! See the film afterwards."

The book is far better than the movie. I actually had a hard time putting the book down once I started reading it. In America though it is harder to find because to my knowledge it hasn't been printed in the US since the 80's. I found a copy online that was reasonably prices however. It's definitely worth looking for.
Well ain't that poster love?

I really wonder why didnīt Christiane wrote a following book? The interest in her life is still very intense, even having passed almost 30 years of the first book.
If she released a new book, Iī d be in line to buy it; I īm a big "fan" of her.

I read an interview with her once in which she said her only real regret was the book, because it defined her life and how people still see her. That said, there is apparently an updated interview with her in the DVD released a few years ago, and by her own admission, she's mainly lived off the royalties from the book.
Here's an amusing review of the film: Scoopy says "Best David Bowie Sucks Movie in German ever".

Also, the Bowie performance was filmed in the same time as the Fashion video. He mimed to the Stage version of Station To Station.

yes, the book is excellent. i only have the german version (is there an english translation? i hope it's better than the english dubbing on the dvd).
so there is more than one release of the DVD? there is no interview on the one i have (which only has the movie in either german or english with bad dubbing).

David's scene in the film is wrong. Cause in the film its a recreation of the LOW/HEROES tour. But in the book the concert is from the STATION TO STATION tour.

true, but i don't really think there's much need to be anal about a few minutes in the movie. it got the point across. after all, remember the main character peddles her arse before she goes so low as to sell her bowie records. still, somebody should've forcibly dyed his hair red again and put him back on the cocaine and milk diet to make it more authentic perhaps...

If we go down that road, most songs played in the movie are wrong, because they weren't even recorded in 1976. I've always seen it so that the movie version simply takes place later than the book.
Besides, David didn't have a red jacket like that in 1978, nor was his hair quite like that, so it isn't exactly a recreation of the 'Stage' tour either.

Yeah, but I think we should be anal about how Christiane put Changesonebowie on the turntable and managed to play "Heroes"...

Liked the book. Christiane F. is quite an identification figure for Germans my age. In fact I'd rather be surprised if your my age, German, and haven't read the book.
Never watched the movie. To be honest, I thought: if they don't stick to the Bowie concert, then the rest will also be disappointing. I mean, the Bowie concert is a climax point in the story, when Christiane realizes for the first time that "It's too late". It needed the STS atmosphere - not red jackets.
So what's the film like?

"Heroes" on "Changesonebowie" was actually the only mistake that caught my attention when I saw this movie for the first time in 1983. It was also the first time I saw footage of Bowie performing live, even if it was a "fake" concert. I thought this movie was special in that it only used previously released Bowie recordings in its soundtrack. I'd always thought "Low" and "Heroes" would make perfect movie scores and "Christiane F." uses Bowie music to great effect, both the songs in nightclub scenes and instrumentals as background music.

If you consider the original time frame in which the story is placed then the inclusion of "Look Back In Anger" is another mistake. It is simply too young for the film.
