What a coincidence, it has come to my attention that i'm the only Mentors and GG Allin fan around these neck of the woods. You're cool, you can hang out with me.

It's got a Bowie contribution.

Ok, he hums in it, I never said it was a valuable contribution. (It's from the Cat People soundtrack, but I'd presume you knew that).

Particularly when a moderator finds he "cannot connect with Bowie" anymore

Most hobbies have a finite limit to the amount of time and effort you can put into them before they cease to be interesting and/or fun. In the 10 years I've been online, I've seen very few people who have managed to maintain the same level of fandom while basing so much of their social life round the Bowie world. I put this down to people going past that breaking point. One of the reasons I've taken total breaks from TW and the rest of the Bowie online world in the past.

That said, I'm pretty much as big a Bowie fan now as I was 10 years ago. Just less inclined to keep shouting it.

I don't really understand why people choose to stick around when they're not even fans any more. If I ever "lost the faith", so to speak, I think I'd rather go somewhere else and talk about stuff I do like, not just used to like.

Baal new [re: ghostlove]

The Baal EP is so un-appealing to the general public, it has never been fit to release on CD. Many hardcore fans, seem to like it (if not love it), however.

Let's Dance (single edit)
China Girl (single edit)
Modern Love (single edit)

Don't forget those different edits Rykodisc made for ChangesBowie ó if EMI are cheap enough to put shorter edits of "Diamond Dogs" and "Candidate" on their bonus disks as "rarities," they'd jump at these.

Re: (Dis)Respect for the masses new [re: ThinWhiteDuke87]

I didn't mention the edits because most people would have the single edits on BOB or the singles collection, I was thinking of a worthwhile compilation of LD era tracks.
The single versions of China girl and Let's dance are worthwhile because the album versions can sometimes just be too long, but I wouldn't relish them on a bonus disc.

As for bonus tracks for the possible anniversary edition of Let's Dance...

If and when this ever comes about? I shall of course buy it for the completist that I am, the supposed bonus disc you propose is lousy ( but then there is not much to actually add that we know of ) I do infact like it when Bowie sings these tracks live.

Wait, I wasn't supposed to talk about myself... new [re: Dara]

Since I'm the moderator in question, I guess I should speak up (someone has been reading my LJ it seems, as I don't remember saying the don't connect thing here).

I still enjoy Bowie's music, when I'm in the mood to play it. But it isn't as important to me as it once was. I've found that I usually take interest in something, be it a musician or a writer or things like ships, I'm really absorbed in the subject for a time (years, usually) until it's replaced by something else as my 'main interest'. However, I never completely lose interest in the old things. I'm still interested in things like railroads and ships that fascinated me as a child, and I still occasionally watch Star Trek that was a big thing for me in my teens.

Were Bowie to release a really good new album in 2005, I'll probably be back in Bowie-mode in no time. But right now, I've managed to collect just about all Bowie material there is to collect, I know all the music by heart, there's nothing new for me discover, Bowiewise. And during the last year, after nearly four years of listening almost exclusively to Bowie, I've discovered and really fallen for other musicians.

But most importantly, these are the best forums in the web. I've been to other Bowie MB's, I've been Oldfield MB's, Kraftwerk MB's, Star Trek MB's, Tolkien MB's (shortly), hell, even ship MB's, but none of them have the atmosphere that makes TW such a great place. Mainly I'd creadit it for TW's anarchic qualities. In the Tolkien board you could get banned for posting in the wrong forum or having 'a username that doesn't fit the boards'. The Oldfield boards are filled with people discussing things like 'a burnt note on Tubular Bells part 2 at 5:36 - intentional?'. I enjoy the free atmosphere here, and although I don't care so much for Bowie's music right now, I am still interested in discussing the man. (Plus, it's a justification for all the Bowie-facts I've crammed in my head).

In reply to:

The reason why I put only the one live track there is because instead of having a random collection of live tracks crammed there (which is pretty much what we got on Aladdin Sane 30th), I'd rather see a full-blown Serious Moonlight live album released.

Presumably material exists to make a really good bonus disc for the anniversary edit (demoes are bound to exist, there were additional tracks done with Queen, etc), but presumably future anniversary discs will be the same as before, with only already released material recycled. Which is a shame, of course.
