Last week I bought a DVD of dubious origin with Led Zeppelin on the front cover and Tin Machine, Black Sabbath, Jimi Hendrix and Alice Cover on the back. It didn't specify contents, so since it was cheap I bought it hoping something rare might be in it.

I've just watched the DVD, and it turned out to be a television show from the early 90's with segments on each band. The Tin Machine segment consists of the videos for "You Belong In Rock N' Roll" and "One Shot", both butchered by the inclusion of a band interview. I had seen "One Shot" before somewhere, but I didn't know YBIRNR had a video... is this stuff rare?

I don't think I ever saw it, I only saw them perform in on chat show and music shows.

Did he perform that song with Tin Machine on a Terry Wogan show in the 1980s once Alan? that seems to ring a bell with me.

I doubt it, it didn't come out til 1991, however they did appear then, with Reeves on chrome virbrator.

How long did Tin Machine actually last please? Im confused with television progs, but they did definately perform on the Wogan prog I know that.

You Belong in Rock n Roll is a great video. I have a VHS version of it taped from it's appearance on Australian MTV back in 1991. That said, it still seems to be a rare video - it has been ommitted from all of the mostly comprehensive RAGE specials on the ABC.

The Last of the Disco Kings MP3 by Adam D Versus David B

This is a Brazilian DVD, one of those cheap, quasi-legit releases. Not exactly rare if you live in Brazil, but a worthy collector's item nonetheless.

They lasted from 1989 til 1992, their first release was in 1989 and they appeared on Wogan to promote the second album in 1991, this is when they performed YBIR+R. Reeves used the vibrator on the strings of his guitar to give a weird effect to the guitarwork.

Wasn't DB sporting an extremely tanned look to go with his vile green jacket and striped trousers? Not very well mimed, either if I do recall correctly.

All in all, best forgotten.

Am I right in thinking there's also a video for Tin Machine? I saw a clip where they were on-stage with people jumping on stage from the crowd. It didn't sound like a live version and he was singing to the camera, I think.

So as well as this performance from Paramount City ( which is very good I must say ) there is that Australian MTV version Adam mentions, a proper video directed by ( thanks to Sys ) Tim Pope? strange it was never put out, I hope they make a DVD package of a Tin Machine performance and include all these wonderful videos as extras, long overdo IMO.

I'm hoping that for Tin Machine's 20th anniversary in 2009, EMI will release a Tin Machine Box Set, with Tin Machine, Tin Machine 2, Oy Vey, Baby, a rarity disc and a DVD.

Not that it would ever happen, but it would be great.
