ZS farewell

A bloke just phoned into the morning show on BBC London to join the discussion about people giving away tickets (to tie in with the Live 8 ebay thing), and he said as a boy he lived on the estate behind the old Hammersmith Odeon. When shows didn't sell out the manager would come and give out tickets to the poor families on the estate. He painted a vivid picture of getting free tickets for the 'farewell' show in '73 because the manager was desperate for the place to look busy 'coz it was no where near selling out. Funny how history remembers these famous events.

He had a nice time, but didn't like Supertramp.

I never knew Supertramp was the support, although I know very little about the support groups throughout the years. It isn't well Documented.

yeah, and little Red Riding Hood was there too new [re: russellmael]

That concert is just like Woodstock: everybody has been there, and there are so many myths surrounding it. Like this, do you think that is true?

In that example, I do think it's true... only because I did similar in my youth. It's an old story that one.

It is one of those gigs that everyone likes to say they were at... made even funnier by this new evidence of 'slow' ticket sales.

everybody has been there

So is anyone here on TW who was at the concert?

Damn, damn, damn that I was too young at that time -
I just had become a fan when there this announcement of Bowie not touring anymore.

I should've gone to London - but probably my parents wouldn't've let me go. But I was allowed to see the STS concert - luckily my older brother came with me. I was still not 16 back then.

/Carsten - diversing as always

I know of two people, one of which kisses Angie as she enters the theatre at the start of the show.

If I had one go with a time machine I'd certainly be beaming myself right back to that very night. A dream.

And I want to believe
In the madness that calls 'now'

My sister went to the Glass Spider tour in Los Angeles. She seemed to have enjoyed it.

She isn't really a fan anymore.

In reply to:

Indeed. The Pistols knew that the bitter comes out better on a stolen guitar, . . . and amp, and microphone, and drumkit, and . . .

I agree with EJSunday's time machine comment. I, too, would chose the farewell concert as one of the first places and times I'd beam myself back to. Then maybe it coulda been MY mug in the film at the front of the audience entranced by Moonage Daydream, instead of that chick that does her hippy-like hand-dance crap throughout the entire song.

I think I'd rather go straight back and join the band in 1971.
