I think you are being a little hard on the man. He took a huge gamble by agreeing to be Bowie's Manager, one hit single in seven years, two albums that sold very poorly. When Defries took on Bowie he was getting 50% of nothing. Ok he did make it hard for Bowie to make money but nevertheless he gave him (along with Angie) the confidence to follow his dream.

Well, that's true i have to admit. And also, without defries bowie wouldn't haved been as big in the states during ddogs and ya. It was quite an achievment that diamond dogs peaked at #5 in the us.

He is one of the absolute very few who have worked in the music biz in a prominent role never to do an interview.

I think his side of the story could be very interesting, even if he behaved like a loan shark.

Isn't he something to do with Trident? I believe the Mainman Organisation still exists, if only as a dormant company.

But then again, i might be talking shit.....although I'm sure the semi-official release of the Santa Monica Show was released as a Mainman product.

I'd love to know what De Fries has done since Bowie - and indeed if he is even still alive - for some reason i can imagine him having a heart attack in the mid eighties.

He sells Bowie stuff on ebay now and again. He was/is involved in the Trident releases. He did manage someone famous in the late 70s but I cannot remember whom, he has really kept himself pretty quiet in the last 30 years. I admire him for not putting a book out showing his side of the story, although I would love to read it.
