Rip this theory to shreds!!!!! new

Bowie's "golden periods" are only accompanied when has had a valid marriage license.

1970-1980
1992-present

Keep in mind that Scary Monsters was released after his divorce, but an unknown amount of material was written beforehand. Visconti was quoted in 1979 as saying 24 songs were recorded for lodger. Also of note is China Girl and Loving The Alien was written, in whole or in part, prior to 1980.

The only career changing song that fits outside this theory is Space Oddity.

Wherein is it said that Loving The Alien was written before 1980?

Re: Rip this theory to shreds!!!!! new [re: K]

I've noticed this before, last year. I posted it somewhere, and I remember all these people tearing it to shreds.
Saying things like "Well, yes, he was officially married, but if you think about orthodox marraige, he was not then married from 1976 to the rest of the 70's, when he made his best work"
Stuff like that. I realize that, and realized that then, but jeez, it was just an observation!

That is a matter of oppinion i say.
There are people like me, who actually appreciates the 80's stuff, like let's dance and tin machine.

Yet it cannot be denied that in general the music made in 1970-80 and post-92 is more widely accepted as good then the pre-70 and 81-91 stuff.

Then again, it should also be noted that the material Bowie has made post-92 has not gained such universal praise as his 70's material, even amongst the fans (let alone by the general public). Most people will accept Buddha, Outside, Earthling and Heathen as good (yes, I know there are people who don't like these but there are also those sick freaks who don't like Hunky Dory), but the same cannot be said about BTWN, Hours or Reality.

Re: Opinion, not oppinion new [re: K]

My very own personal opinion is, that everything bowie has recorded after he restarted his solo-career, has been excellent. Every single album. Even hours, which i like now more then ever.
In every post tin machine-era album there is only a maximum of 1 bad song in it.

Again, only my opinion.

Bowie once said an embryonic Alien was demoed in 1980, right? I think it was stated in thread(website?) that listed all the the recordings Bowie has made that nobody has heard.

Did Bowie own a wedding ring prior to the 90's?

Someone should email Visconti and ask if any of the 14 Lodger outtakes were used on SM.

Fantastic idea, i'll guarantee you he will reply back to you!

Better yet, let's make a trip down to manhattan and ask bowie himself. Surely he has time for a couple of loonies from tw.

Tony Visconti is usually very good at replying to queries.
