If one uses it as your ISP, does that mean you get Bowienet for free?

No, you still have to subscribe and you have to pay extra for it to be your ISP, a bit like using AOL or Yahoo! etc, however you have to be in certain parts of the US to have it as your ISP. I think it is only dial up too.

Thanks Alan, bit mean isn't it, I'm beginning to think Bowienet could have been a big mistake for Bowie, not that I'll ever leave it, for all it's slowness of news etc... It still has exclusives.

It does appear he has tired of it, can't remember his last journal entry, I sometimes even wonder if they are his journal entries and not someone just topping it up now and then, wouldn't put it past them.

How do you mean, a bit mean? You are paying for an additional service by having them be your ISP.

The overblown staging of the Glass Spider tour, with Spazz Attack and all that other nonsense. Ick. The song selection was okay though, except for some NLMD dreck.

I guess it costs more for Bowienet to be you ISP, so as a benefit they could make the fanclub free for ISP users, It's just a marketing idea.

In reply to:

awww.....txhe days of the official Bowie website before it went all pay-site. If i remember it was a bloody nightmare too, kept crashing and didn't work very well.

In my experience, it worked fine. Maybe it depended on your ISP. A lot of early ISPs were pretty crappy (including some of the big ones, like AOL).

That free Telling Lies download generated a reported 250,000 hits. I'll bet that's more than Bowienet ever got. Of course, download speeds were so slow it took most people about 6 hours to download a 3 minute track. I remember reporting the 250,000 hits to a friend and she replied cynically, "That wasn't 250,000 people. Just 250 trying 1000 times each and crashing".

Bowienet was a defining moment for online Bowie fans. Before, there was a very strong sense of it being one community, albeit a diffuse one. There was also a much stronger incentive for independent fan webmasters like Evan.

DD, what exclusives are available from Bowienet? I was a trial member for a while, and didn't notice anything to get excited about.

There are exclusive photo galleries and many items not found elswhere on the net, Bowieradio and of course what I meant by exclusives per se, was the fact that when and if? a new album whatever comes out... you have access to media downloads of the forthcoming products.

Plus I like being a member of Bowienet, there are many nooks and crannies of information on there.
