Bowie the Recycler
|
|
|
Seems as though he's always recycled himself. probably the only time he appears to have something new is with the contributions of others. Then he will recycle that.
Not that this is a bad thing. I guess many artists work on that process.
It's like he has a a pallet of colours that he likes to dabble with. eg.
BTWN was a little bit of Let's Dance with a touch of YA and a pinch of Tin Machine.
Outside was Scary Monsters mixed with Diamond Dogs and processed through Eno.
Hours...well thats recycled from all over thr place.
in the end he recycles the recycled. oh the list goes on. Even the recycling of musicians. Slick appears up everynow and then as does the Borneo horns.
Question is what will he recycle next?

Probably his newspapers, some plastic Evian bottles and some empty tuna cans.

Who knows? but I'm hoping it will be his 1960's material, yes I know there is Toy all finished...artwork et al, It sits on a bloody shelf gathering dust
So I'll go along with 1960's Bowie recycled, please.

I like what I heard of Toy. If he is going to release it then he might have to put a little more effort again as half of its been released already.
He seems to recycle sometimes just a period but into one song. Like No One Calls, a great track very reminiscent of Low and maybe even Earthling.

We can but hope it gets released, as for people saying... as half of its been released already, true to a point, but I've heard on Ruud's site 30 second clips of some of the original versions, they do sound quite different from the Heathen versions, I'd link you the page, only I've forgotten it now

Here.
Also, only Afraid and Slip Away have different Heathen versions, the rest are the same, so your argument does not nescessarily hold water. That said, there a total of 14 (15 if you count Pictures of Lily, recorded in the same sessions) tracks from Toy and only four of them have been officially released as those versions... and apart from Conversation Piece, none of them are exactly easy to find, at least if you want them in decend sound quality.
