Oh yeah, and Basquiat, clearly. I mean most movies he just sort of stands there and says the words while being David Bowie. When he acts, he's usually being weird. In Basquiat he basically just did an impression of Andy Warhol, but it worked because Andy Warhol was basically doing an impression of himself all the time. So while I still wouldn't quite call that "acting," it was an accomplished step above the usual.

Well as it stands it looks as though TMWFTE is the choice for Bowie fans in regards to acting ability (in a major role). I've done a collation with another audience as every good market researcher should and it is sitting at 17 votes MCML is at 10 votes The Linguini Incident at 5 votes
I personally think that film was not adventurous and hard for him because he didn't need to show any natural ability as it wouldn't have mattered if he was stiff and unnatural due to him being an alien. To act in a natural and convincing manner is more difficult so I chose The Linguini Incident for his very nice interaction with his co stars and slight improv coming out too. I would say the same for Just A Gigolo (and Jazzin For Blue Jean). MCML was affecting but possibly could have been more challenging. As a side note, my ex who likes war films and war documentaries said Bowie was good but shouldn't have been a Major. He said his accent and social standing showed and as such should have been cast as a P.O, or played it more posh. I don't know much about class systems so I couldn't comment but it was an interesting observation.
