Intros to Bowie shows? [re: ]

Ok, here;s my question...

How has Bowie opened his live shows?

What music was played in the auditorium before curtain up?

How did the actual shows begin?

I wish I had seen him live. Too late.

The times we live in are the least moustache of all.

i guess most of the time it's an opening act - like macy gray in vancouver in 2003 (or was it 2004?). comparably to the great wall of china from outer space, her hair was the only thing i could see from my seat.

in roseland in 2002, when he didn't have an opening act, he was playing moby's 18.

some of the more interesting choices in the past must have been un chien andalou (station to station tour); i think there was another film piece before some tin machine shows, and whatever the hell the moaning and groaning was before the diamond dogs shows (as can be heard in the extended intro on the a portrait in flesh bootleg).

I remember one show in the late '70's when he opened it by coming out onstage and getting the entire audience to chant with him: "Iccy is a faa-ag, Iccy is a faa-ag..."

"OK, I quit. You win. Last post. The end. Goodbye." - Stu, 1 October 2007

Ahhh...those were the days. I missed that whole show though sadly.

It isn't clear, however, how uniform the shows were. For instance, I've read somewhere that Un Chien Andalou wasn't shown in Paris (for copyright reasons). Some Cleveland '76 boots have tango music that apparently accompanied the silent film but, apart from these boots, I can't recall any other mention of tango music in '76 (viz Kraftwerk's Radioactivity).

As far as the '74 shows go, exactly how many got the "extended apocalypse" before the show?

From a newspaper account of the Ottawa DD show:

In reply to:

The show was 30 minutes late, during which time the audience was subjected to an aimless soundtrack that ranged from satanic grunts ready to be exorcised, to pretend pantings of pornographic passion already in the process of being exorcised.

Still not sure how many shows got this treatment as reports are few and far between.
