I only said it would be neat if they added the unused cover in the STAGE booklet. It's not yet fully known if these albums will be presented as new albums or just rejigged versions of the 70's ones.
Bowie has changed album covers before, like 5 different times.

I think it was dukewhite who had the information about the original track order being restored from Visconti himself.
Yes, you are correct. I corresponded with Tony via email and then met him at a concert at CBGB's for another artist he's currently working with, and he confirmed that the order will be returned to the concert running order. He said, and I'm paraphrasing here, that one reason it was originally released with a chronological tracklisting was that the songs fit better on the LP's that way. With vinyl, there were time constraints to what would physically fit on an album side that are significantly less than those on CD. As far as the "real concert" feel, I don't think that will be restored, as it's not on the original masters. The audio from the "Stage" shows was recorded at studio quality, hence Visconti's love for the album and its sound quality, and this meant that the crowd noise was not so much mixed out, but was never picked up by the microphones in the first place. This is conjecture on my part, but it seems logical based on what I've read of the recording and mixing process of the album.

The album's other big mistake.

They could always mix in the crowd from a Faces live album.

I like the absence of crowd noise. It makes the live arrangement much clearer. On bootlegs, one is considered better quality if there is no or little crowd noise, so why should the opposite be true of an official live release?

It is the balance, in a bootleg the recorder is usually in the crowd so the crowd is high in the mix, to the expense of the music on times. But hearing the crowd enjoying themselves between songs and singing along to something like All the young dudes on the Dublin "promo" enhances the song. As it is a concert it shouldn't sound like it was made in the studio, or it defeats the object of being live.
Well that's what I think anyway.

I must agree with Dukewhite, I have never been bothered by the absence of crowd noise. I listen to the album to hear the wonderful arrangements and performance, not crowd noises.

And with the exception of Station To Station, all covers have reverted back to the originals in the most recent reissues.

One album I can't listen to very often is Santa Monica 72, or in my case Ziggy Stardust And The Spiders From Mars "Live". At the end of each song the crowd noise is booming!! Is this the same for the "proper" Santa Monica 72 CD?
I remember someone pointing out on these boards that the sleeve notes of Aladdin Sane (2003) say "..from the forthcoming album Santa Monica 72", so hopefully we'll see a deluxe repackage of this album too.
Its about time I had a signature
