The Sun!!!

Just choked on my morning cup of tea, while reading the Sun newspaper, for those who don't know a particularly loathsome daily tabloid newspaper. On the front cover they report that David Bowie had a heart attack on stage in Germany and was double up in agony backstage (EJ you were there, did you see David have a heart attack on stage and forget to tell us?).
It then goes onto saying how David's "20 years" of drug abuse was a contributing factor (does this mean David was on drugs into the early 90's??) and how in the mid 70's he was addicted to cocaine which led to heroin(? news to me, that last bit).
They then have the audacity to say he has been "trying in vain" to get back to the songwriting which made him a big selling artist in the past!
IN VAIN!! They do however say that he can still pack audiences in on his latest Reality tour to much applause.

I read it too...deffo talking out of their arse there. The heroin was somat I've never heard of either...probably because it's a great big lie. Like most of the shit they print. But at least he's making front page news again, even if it is a load of bollocks.

If you think we're gonna make it...

That sounds bad, although with all due respect for the tabloids, the story in the Daily Mirror was much better, not bad.

Yeah the collage is rather nifty, my own favourite photo would be that from 1976, which is not that disimilar from 2004.

Thanks also for the URL, that article is so monstrously wrong

Re: The Sun!!! new [re: pablopicasso]

The Sun has really got my goat now. Truth is, David's symptoms in Prague are consistent with ALL of the following potential scenarios:

1) A pinched nerve that later subsided and then flared up again in Sheessel. When he went to get the nerve checked out after the Sheessel show, it was determined he ALSO had an acutely narrowed artery, and he later underwent angioplasty.

2) Angina (chest and shoulder pain caused usually during exertion when a blocked artery is preventing full blood flow to the heart). It was not a pinched nerve at all, but the symptoms presented that way at first. Once it was determined he had a narrowed artery, he underwent angioplasty.

3) A mild heart attack caused by the narrowed artery--so mild that he did not realize it was a heart attack at all. When the narrowed artery was diagnosed, he later underwent angioplasty to reduce future risk of a more serious attack.

NONE of us was there when he got medical care in either Prague or Sheessel--and this includes the folks at The Sun. We do not know which exact scenario took place, but The Sun HAS to adopt scenario No. 3 because it is the most sensational one, and will sell the most rag papers.

Even if David did suffer a heart attack in Prague, it must have been mild--they CAN be mild, you know, and result in very little damage to heart muscle--because he performed a full show two days later. What we do NOT know is what additional symptoms he had after performing in Sheessel. Those, too, could have been 1 or more of the 3 scenarios above. Again, The Sun chooses the most sensational one.

I am sick and tired of all the gossip and speculation. We were NOT there, and we simply don't know. EVEN those among us with medical degrees or who work in hospitals I am certain are not so good at their craft that they can diagnose a man over the bleedin' Internet.

THE ONLY THING THAT MATTERS is that David is reportedly resting and doing well. We can only pray that is true, and that he will be fine for many decades to come.

In more accurate news (except for the assumption that David's desire to return to "work" is a desire/promise to resume his tour), Bowie's angioplasty has now made the news section (click on the brief Bowie mention under the heading "other breaking news") of an angioplasty website here. The best part is where they ask Bowie to "reconsider" his statement that he "won't be writing a song about this one." Someone at that site must be a Bowie fan!

Re: The Sun!!! new [re: pablopicasso]

The other sad thing is, that this is the most publicity he's had in years. The story was even on Top Of The Pops complete with New Killer Star background music.

You know, this is his own fault for not releasing singles. This is the public's perception, sadly. Despite Heathen and Reality being big hits, they think he hasn't had any success since "Little Wonder"

The Heart Attack: TW Exclusiv - I Saw It All new [re: pablopicasso]

In reply to:

EJ you were there, did you see David have a heart attack on stage and forget to tell us?

Bloody hell, now that you are saying it - did I really forget to mention how David suddenly started to stumble right in the middle of "All The Young Dudes", fell over, crashed into Sterling's drum kit, bounced back just to collide with Earl Slick's guitar which was just being waved in the air by its master? And didn't I report that when Mike Garson jumped up from his piano stool to rush to help his old mate he unfortunately knocked over Cat Russel's keyboard stack which crash-landed all over the poor David who was already cringing on the stage floor in agony? And if it hadn't been for Gail's and Gerry's immediate reaction to give Bowie the kiss of life in alternating shifts, I am sure our man wouldn't have made it. Never ever.

But as the whole situation was solved as professionally as I have described it, the show went on after Bowie was given a good glass of water and a fresh warm jumper against the cold. I'd say they rocked even harder than before but still I was quite surprised how Bowie stood this through, smiled and rocked his way through three encores and stayed on stage with the band for quite some minutes later to take in all the applause and admiration they were getting from the 40.000 fans. Incredible stamina. I mean, he could have died ...

And I want to believe
In the madness that calls 'now'

Thanx to Gail and Gerry we'll have to wait a bit longer for all those rare tracks to be released. Btw, you sound a tad jealous that you didn't get to give the 'kiss of life'.
