We all know DD74 says everything is rubbish except Bowie, Bliar and bumming his mum and is more opinionated than Germaine Greer. But the Darkness are nothing more than a tongue-in-cheek 'hair metal' band, not brilliant but well constructed and well-timed in the world of music, especially one in which Usher is 'King of Modern Music', 'Pop Idols' rule the airwaves and Coldplay can break America. Give 'em and change and take that head out of your ass DD74.

Well I cannot speak for A day at the races, but I have tried to like a night at the opera and sorry, I just cannot do it. I love the singles, but that is as far as it goes. I have about 6 queen albums but, no, not for me.

Get EJ downunder 2005.

I have A Kind Of Magic on the original '86 cassette, its hardly been played really.
I only dig it out once every year or so to play One Vision and A Kind Of Magic.
I try to hear it all but after about 7 years of owning the thing I cant! It gets a bit boring apart from those first two tracks, which are brilliamt IMO.

nope, imo they are fun as well. the videos are hilarious and between the usual mtv crap really worth being watched. but apart from being fun the darkness are nothing. as mentioned before - they are well timed but lightyears away from being serious musicians. and i doubt that this will change with the next album.
on the other hand its a pretty shitty time for beginners in music business. when you look at most great bands they had one or two not really successful albums before their first big hit. these days it seems that the first record already has to hit the market perfectly since its production and promotion is as expensive as those of three albums twenty years ago. so they were more or less forced to sell that one glam idea while queen could add ballads, hard rock and anything just as they wished to.
