I'm a cynical git, but that would break my heart.

Boy it would break my heart too but I don't think Bowie would ever perform if he thought he wasn't giving it his best shot.

I've mentioned this before but look at Sinatra, the guy was very old but still had that Charisma, style and fantastic voice, as long as his voice holds out? I can see Bowie going on for a long time yet.

To be honest, Sinatra's voice started to go in the mid 80s, my mother has a set of videos and in a concert in 1982 he sings New York New York and hits the high notes at the end, in 1985 in Japan, the whole section is removed as he can no longer hit them. Obviously by this stage Sinatra was getting on so it is no suprise. One day I would like to see Bowie do a final televised concert where he sings a mixture of well loved favourites and some things he has never sung, or rarely sung. Then says, that's it.
Then his memory can be untarnished by comebacks and embarrasing appearances. Dignity is valuable.

...but you just know it would be shit, no matter how emotional it ~should~ be.

Yeah I've got those concerts on DVD, I do know what you mean but boy he still looks the part eh? Only one Sinatra and only one Bowie, he did record two albums with other singers very late in his career and the albums were big hits, you may remember the Duets albums? he recorded a really FAB version of "I've Got You Under My Skin" with Bono and the accompanying video was just brilliant.

Duets Vol.1

Duets Vol.2

Im not so sure about the idea of a final television concert, the idea sounds nice I grant you, but can you really see Bowie caving in to such a meduim as mass appeal television?

Well what I was thinking of was a final farewell live concert that was shown live. He used TV for his birthday and he also appeared on Storytellers.

Let's not be snobby about TV now

Were they both mainstream television companies or cable? and I agree both are FAB.

Television has a terrible name now you have to admit that? but I think maybe a very special MTV or VH1 company could handle this well.

What of the comeback concert "Old Odd Eyes is Back" ITV or BBC

Give it to MTV and it would be all style and no content, Let the BBC do it, no adverts, straight concert.

Storytellers was VH1, the birthday concert was pay tv in the states and on BBC2 over here.

Granted the idea does sound lovely, but I wouldn't want it to end This might sound daft to you but I cannot imagine a world without Bowie performing/recording, good lord it's been an enormous part of my life this past 30 years.

So you would prefer him to become an embarrasment? I would prefer a dignified exit myself..

Such as whom?

I think Bowie himself will know when to exit the show business world, perhaps you and I see him differently Alan, to me he wasn't an artist I stumbled across in the early 80s, he's been in my sound/vision life since I was 10 years old.

It's not just his music or his image for me, It's the whole package.
