You said you wanted him to go on forever. That is not an option, so I would prefer him to some time in the not so soon future to call it a day and to go out with a bang. And what is all this stumbling on him in the 80s crap? I have been a fan for 22 year, I EVEN bought Tin Machine

Alas it seems if I didn't get Starman with my pocket money in 1972, I am not a proper fan...

...you would've loved to have seen me trying to work out what 2005 minus 22 was.
It's funny.. all those old fans who went to the Ziggy tour with sun discs on their heads. Where are they now? I assume they jumped ship when the Bay City Rollers came along. Longevity means nothing.
(Though you know where I draw the line with newbies!)

<<Sinatra>>
Frank apparently drank scotch and smoked right up until his death. Even though his doctors told him otherwise. His habits even made him functially blind via cataracts.
I'm sure his lifestyle would have had an adverse affect on his vocal range.

He drank Jack Daniels and smoked Lucky Strike Cigarettes up until his death, he was even buried with a bottle of Jack Daniels in his coffin and a pack of the cigs.

For sure it did but nobody cared, he was Frank Sinatra and sounded great just grumbling almost, Sinatra had that certain special style like Bowie has, some do, some don't.

Just before he quit touring Frank had 3 teleprompters onstage. He was also doing really bad mistakes like forgetting the chorus to "New York, New York".
I think his family was annoyed that he didn't quit any of his vices.
Similarly, BB King's doctor told him to re-arrange his diet if he wanted to performed for years to come. This meant no more fired chicken.

In a way I suppose I can understand the families thoughts, but to deny Sinatra these pleasures I fear would have killed him much earlier simply through boredom, that was his lifestyle and his life.
How ever he ended up be it with teleprompters etc... he was still Mr Cool and bloody great.
