Re: Most Successful UK Solo Artist in UK Chart His new [re: Forgotten_Boy]

In reply to:

Thats a stupid comment Dogz and you know it, already this decade we've had the brilliant '1' that was entirely digitally remastered, "Let It Be...Naked" which was remixed AND remastered, and "The Capitol Years" which was remastered in stereo and mono. Which leads to your next comment...

I wasn't aware these tracks had been remastered, but if they have? I apologize.

Besides a greatest hits package is hardly that interesting is it? when you consider the great wealth of Beatles albums available for remastering and repackaging, as with the Bowie albums.

I bought this album complete with it's bonus disc on day of release, I must have played it 3 times in total, they who ruined this album, removed it's soul and should be ashamed.

Yes but had it been a straight forward remastering, It would have been fine, It had Johns comments removed and the Phil Spector wall of sound removed, this was Pope Maccas doing and we know it.

Plus I would hope there were lessonas to be learnt from this terrible botch-up job.

This has gone way offtopic, but Meh! new [re: diamondogz74]

Another example then. In 1996 Capitol remixed and remastered Pet Sounds into true stereo for the first time. Because some of the overdubs were put on originally at the mastering stage, these were not available in an isloated form to be added to the stereo mix. So if you want to hear Pet Sounds as Brian Wilson originally envisioned it, you have to hear it in mono.

You talk about straightforward remastering, sorry, no such thing, remastering means going back to the original multitrack master tapes, so all mixing has to be done from scratch. So if you have a person doing the remastering who wasn't at the original session, they are unaware of the settings of the various tracks, so at best they have to do an approximation. Some session tapes would have listed the original settings but some would not.

Led Zeppelin's back catalogue was originally mastered by someone outside the group in the 80s. Jimmy Page hated these issues and so in the early 90s started remastering them himself. Now as he was the original producer, he made a vastly improved set of cds.

I have the disc version that has both mono and stereo recordings, plus that great boxset

I got to be honest here and say the stereo does not improve the album much IMO, I've always been a fan of back to mono, but time dictates ( or perhaps greed ) that these albums need cleaning up in some way.

Yes but I meant keep all the original qualities of the album, just clean up the sound, not butcher it ( excuse the pun )

Fine, so who have we left? George Martin is deaf in one ear, so that counts him out, I doubt that Ringo could care less, this leaves Pope Macca, I'm sorry but after the dreadful Let It Be I say know to him.

Can we trust others? well we could give them a chance, the originals still exist.

AFAIK, the original final mix master tapes for any Beatles albums has NEVER been used for cd. Some were 3rd-4th generation tapes.

I'm excluding Anthology/YelSub/LIB-naked since they were remixed. I'm not sure about #1s.

I just picked up a new cd copy of LedZep Graffiti album and was blown away at how good it sounds. I think the sound quality is better than nearly all albums released 30 years later!!!!..

Hmmm. Prism's right, everyone! Further grounds to impeach our dictators, even if such a thing were possible. Which we've long since learned it isn't. We live in a fascist cyberland, not a democracy, and our dictators don't even feel the need to answer their critics.

It's highly debatable whether "Bowie may be the most successful UK solo act in UK chart history but only if we accept one particular measure. And not even a good one, like most hits, or most number ones, or most sales" is even News. Sounds more like Views to me, but I guess our dictators consider their Views as News to the rest of us.

Extremists on both sides are driving the bus. Not just that, but they've persuaded the rest of us to pay to have the bus converted into a tank, and we're not allowed to look outside to see for ourselves what's really going on.

Tell me, if we're so dictatorial, why haven't I banned you ages ago?
