Tin Machine II voted 10th Worst Album new

From this month's Q magazine:

"After a string of credibility draining mid-80's albums, David Bowie decided to reconnect with his roots by forming a band in which he was on an equal footing with the rest of the group. On paper, a noble idea. In reality, a disaster. Where Tin Machine's first album consisted of workman-like garage rock, the tune-free follow-up was jaw-droppingly bad. Blame guitarist Reeves Gabrels, whose interminable avant-garde squalling bore no relationship whatsoever to anything else going on around it. Bowie has since threatened to release a third Tin Machine album made up of out-takes from the first two. Pray he's joking."
Worst Track - Stateside - so duff even Bowie refused to sing it, passing vocal duties on to bassist Hunt Sales.

A little harsh, I prefer it to the first album. However, I think they're spot on about Reeves...

Its about time I had a signature

Simple music for simple people? new [re: Nature_Boy]

I think this is just typical of most mainstream publications and shows a lack of any kind of musical depth. Doesn't Q deal a lot with Robbie Williams sexuality these days or go on about things that happened 10 years ago?

One could say the same for Garson's playing on 'Outside'. Sound doesn't have to be melodic to be good or expressionistic. I think the way Bowie was feeling at the time could be felt in Reeves psychoharmonic distortion renderings. The 'outside' element in atonality is the best part in a lot of Bowie's work and I think it can open the listener to a more broad definition of what is music. Sound is after all the third dimension of music, along with melody and harmony, as my good friend Reeves has said.

Drummer.

And personally, I've always found TMII to be more melodic and definately more enjoyable than the first album (but admittedly, I don't like garage rock at all).

Also, Sorry is far worse than Stateside.

Considering that 'You've Been Around' and 'Outside' had their origins in Tin Machine, I doubt that the withheld tracks are any worse than the released ones.

It also occurs to me that if TMII gets re-released, they should think seriously about dropping the two Hunt tracks (pretty much everyone hates them).

And while they're at it, bring in Needles on the Beach to replace the two.

Well, kinda new [re: Nature_Boy]

Actually, it wasn't voted the 10th worst album, it was named it. There was no voting process in place - it was Q's opinion piece on "the 50 worst albums ever".

Apparently the worst album ever is Thank You, by Duran Duran. The not-at-all-bad Midnite Vultures by Beck was placed at number fifty, also.

I could be a genius if I just put my mind to it.

Absolutely. And I had always thought I was alone on that one.

Very true. And I had always thought I was alone on that one too.

Indeed. Or I'd even say the actually-quite-exquisite Midnite Vultures by Beck.

And I want to believe that a light's shining through somehow
