I stressed in my post that my being in a tribute band is a hobby. I am a songwriter, i play with an originals band and it's a totally different experience.
I'd like to think that we are a little different to most other tribute acts as we actually pay 'tribute' to the person who's music we play as opposed to going out of our way to drsss up and look like them. We play most of the bowies songs we cover with original arrangements too....so there is a creative side to it. I've been in bands both professionally and as a hobby for almost 12 years. I too spent much of my early time in bands doing covers. But i started the bowie contingent as a way of challanging myself as a musician....to see how i would perform and adapt the songs. It's an interesting way to push yourself as a musician and a performer. Other people enjoy watching us do it too, so its a bonus.
