Well, considering that this is his second (I think) live appearance since the end of A Reality Tour over two years ago, I'd say Bowie's live appearances have been rare of the late.

He went with the swept back hair look around 93'ish (see Miracle Goodnight video) and i don't think it suited him then, let alone now he's somewhat older.

*Exclusive David Bowie Announcement*

Mike is happy to reveal he will be joining David Bowie onstage tommorow night for his set at New Yorks Hammerstein Ballroom for the Keep A Child Alive Charity.

Read more here: http://www.keepachildalive.org/

KEEP A CHILD ALIVE is an urgent response to the AIDS pandemic ravaging Africa. With 25 million already dead, the disease continues, wiping out whole societies, threatening economic infrastructure and creating tragic devastation in the family structure.

There are currently 12 million AIDS Orphans in Africa alone. How much longer will we sit by while millions of people die from a treatable disease?

Anti-retroviral (ARV) treatment has transformed the lives of people with AIDS in the West, returning them from sickness to health. But less than 5% of Africans with AIDS have access to these life-saving drugs.

Re: Bowie live 9th Nov new [re: Adam]

Could "he will be joining David Bowie onstage" be interpretated so that this will be another Bowie/Garson duo gig? Which of course could be the greatest thing since sliced bread. Especially if they do perform a piano version of "Heroes"... although I somehow doubt they could be arsed to make such a radical reworking.

Maybe Lady Grinning Soul and Wild is the Wind instead?

Re: Bowie live 9th Nov new [re: K]

'Stranger's When We Meet' is almost just piano and drums. I would love to see that one performed. Even without drums, Bowie and Garson can make this song shine, especially for what the event it is being played for. It's truly one of his most intimate and emotional songs of his catalog and the audience would embrace it whole-heartedly

the awesome duo new [re: K]

My interpretation is that it will be Garson/Bowie only. IIRC, since Reality, that is the only configuration he has performed unless it's been with another band (David Gilmour, Arcade Fire, etc). The Garson/Bowie configuration is an easy one to assemble - no need for any band members apart from his right hand man. It is quite conceivable that Bowie is no longer in regular contact with people like Gail, Sterling, Earl, etc. and may well re-stock his band before the next major tour / album.

See, that's where you're wrong. If Paul McCartney could trot out "Let It Be" at Live Aid (wasn't the gig supposed to convey the message of taking a stand and doing something?), then Bowie can sing "We Are The Dead" for the terminally ill.

They used so kind of a drum machine on it during the Reality tour, didn't they, so it might be concievable they'll do it again in a similar style. I like the idea of accompanying it with Strangers When We Meet, which would also work well on a similar configuration as ghostlove said.

THE BENEFIT LAST NITE WAS VERY MOVING.

DAVID PERFORMED BEAUTIFULLY AND VERY MOVING ON THE SONG WILD IS THE WIND.
FANTASTIC VOYAGE WAS GREAT AND ALISHA KEYS AND DAVID SANG CHANGES.IT WAS GREAT.
I LOVED PLAYING THE PIANO FOR THEM.

Fantastic Voyage? For the love of God, where are the sound files?????

When I saw Mike Garson at a jazz show in August, he was taking requests for the "Gershwin encore." Basically, people were to yell out the names of Gershwin tunes they wanted to hear. Of course, some joker yelled out "Free Bird," to which Mike rolled his eyes, so I yelled, "Aladdin Sane." He looked at me, smirked, and said, "Bowie didn't write that, y'know."

Much fun.
