Did you see Bowie lately?

So what's up with Bowie lately? Is he only enjoying the company of his wife and daughter nowadays with the occasional art movie on thursday evenings? Can we give up hope for that one brilliant record that the man is able to make? Bowie! Wake up!

It's been 12 years since he produced a brilliant album, and 10 years since he produced a good one. If he can't do better than Outside / Earthling, he needs to continue hanging out with the family... and quietly go away.

Someone should kidnap him and force him to do one last good album. I really don't want Reality to be left as the last David Bowie album ever...

amen to that.
though you are so wrong about modern love - to the point that i felt an urge to call bjork a dirty whore in retaliation. thankfully, by now i have mastered the art of self-restraint to avoid behaviors like that.

Do you think that, perhaps, if he's still not released any new material by the time his contract with EMI runs out we'll start getting stuff from the vault? Or is that purely wishful thinking?
To be honest, it wouldn't surprise me if he's slowly compiling a new body of work. I mean, it's not like he hasn't been doing anything musically at all: guest vocals, while not as satisfying as new Bowie produce, could be a suggestion that the wheels are in motion.
I think the chances that he releases a really left of field experimental album are probably more likely then ever before - he said he wrote 'Reality' with touring in mind, one would imagine that touring his next album would be the absolute LAST thing he wants to do. So perhaps he'll create something kind of 'untourable'.
Again though, probably wishful thinking.
God have mercy, you're a hopeless guitar player! You even make ME feel better you son of a bitch!

Bowie does what he feels like, remember that. He has never felt that he has obligations to his fans (except in his darkest hours, like the S+V tour). There is no grand plan, no schedule that he follows. And he is not short of money. Probably he has written some songs, perhaps made some recordings, then judged that he didn't want to release them and abandoned the whole thing. Perhaps he started doing something, thought that he would finish it at a later time and then lost interest. This is what happened with the Outside sessions, with Toy, and possibly other stuff that we never got to know about. Life with a puppy can be pretty demanding, you know. Getting up in the middle of the night when the little bastard needs to poo.

I disagree. Hours, Heathen, and Reality haven't been superb additions to the canon, but they've been additions all the same. There are songs I like on all of them. I'd be quite happy to get more songs that I like, even if it means some silly old man gets to spend less time with his family.
