Unreleased Tin Machine Track Emerges
|
|
|
Originally slated as track 3 on Tin Machine's second album, this song (titled SHOCK FOR ONE on youtube) was apparently pulled at the last minute and then intended as a b-side.
The bside never eventuated, and the track has remained unreleased ever since.
LISTEN HERE
The video has been cut to add a little bit of eye fodder while listening to this gem.

Tin Machine producer Tim Palmer has told me that he remembers the song, but cannot remember the name. He remarks "It has been a while. I like it though".
I am waiting on replies from Reeves and Tony.

Tin Machine II - the lost gem in the crown
[re: Adam]

Further cements my opinion that Tin Machine II is a too-oft overlooked, underrated and maligned album on the strength of the two Sales tracks. Drop 'Stateside' and 'Sorry', whack this one in there, you've got a ten track album that is certainly Bowie's best since 'Scary'.
God have mercy, you're a hopeless guitar player! You even make ME feel better you son of a bitch!

On a serious side, tv eye's slightly more elaborate reply pretty much sums it up - the track sounds like a throwaway with very little thought given to it. It would be interesting to know which ones of them wrote it, tho'.

It wasn't as bad as I expected, from the comments. It's a "I'd never put it on my mp3 player" song - not good enough to be an "I'd put it on but almost always skip it" track, but not so bad that it's a "I'm embarrassed to be a fan of this man" track, either. It's very Tin Machine.

A BDU member has relayed the following:
"Opps. I think that I might be responsible for David not putting that song on the second Tin Machine CD. When David invited me into the studio to listen to the rough mix of the second Tin Machine CD (that was recorded in Sydney) he asked what I thought of each track. I thought this one was a bit weak compared to the rest so I told him to lose it. Reeves agreed so David dropped it from the CD. Sorry about that. It's not a bad track now that I hear it again. That is how I remember it anyway."

I would've liked this new track if it was on TM2 (accounting for my youthfulness then) Not so much now though.
It reminds me bizarrely of a track that could've been on the Absolute Beginners OST ... backing vocals like some big suited kid creole types in the 80's.

Otherwise, what is your sick obsession with my teeth that you've mentioned 100 times in this thread? You're so obsessed you can see them again, hopefully that will make you piss off like a good little paedo back to all those stauesque uber-models at Wankerworld
*I just had a little look over at Wankerworld myself, it's been no fun since Strawie got shafted so I rarely bother anymore. But it looks to me like Ardent needs a break from the internet for a while to stop and regroup, become human again. The cyberworld is obviously getting to him. Too much internet makes anyone a nasty piece of work, especially one who's already got social issues in the real world!

I rank this song as middle quality on the Tin Machine II scale - certainly better than 'Stateside' and 'Sorry' and even 'You Can't Talk'. It's probably on a similar level to songs like 'A Big Hurt' and 'If There is Something' if not a little better - but it's not the pinnacle represented by 'Shopping For Girls', 'You Belong in R&R' and 'Goodbye Mr Ed'.
Here's what I make of the lyrics (with schizo's assumption of the chorus):
I got a blues Layered in a little house Less I know Less I feel a godless, come the sun (?)
Call my blues a rat race All the rats are winning God moves in mysterious ways God moves in, the rats they move out
It's tough, but, it's OK! It's tough, but, it's OK!
Angels come in limousines When the night is down They glide along the shiny streets Touch me when I'm down I love this grimy city I love this freaky town
It's tough, but, it's OK! It's tough, but, it's OK!
Brother I see they took you Took you off the front line Memory is our best defense Memories are made of all of this
(Sax solo)
Squeezing out a generation Waiting for the next Killing them by the radio Hey, I am not ready for this
It's tough, but, it's OK! So I lie, lie, lie
Angels come in limousines When the night is down They glide along the shiny streets Touch me when I'm down I love this grimy city I love this freaky town
It's tough, but, it's OK! It's tough, but, it's OK!
Hangs upon a cross A man who crossed the road I came across the cross eyed man Crossed him down and trusting no one
It's tough, but, it's OK! It makes me lie, lie, lie It's tough, but, it's OK! My memories are made of this
(Sax solo)
It's tough, but, it's OK! It's tough, but, it's OK!
Sequencing a generation Waiting for the next Suffocate my radio Hey, I am not ready for this So I lie, lie, lie So I lie, lie, lie Three times in a day
