Top 10 Bowie Songs As Decided By UNCUT Readers
|
|
|
From the August issue (via Bowienet):
A couple of months ago, to coincide with our cover story on David Bowie's 30 greatest songs, we suggested you visit the Uncut website and tell us your favourite tune by the Dame.
Interesting results, as ever, not least because five of what became your Top 10 didn't make it into our Top 30.
Here are the meticulously collated results:
01 - Life On Mars? 02 - Five Years 03 - Moonage Daydream 04 - Station To Station 05 - Quicksand 06 - Rock N Roll Suicide 07 - "Heroes" 08 - Lady Grinning Soul 09 - Cygnet Committee 10 - Queen Bitch

No complaints from here.
All tracks picked are definitely woth a place in the Top 10. With Queen Bitch coming as some sort of surprise.

Actually, the last three are a bit of "late bloomers"; not even given a single back in the days but nowadays considered as bona fide Bowie classics.
Biggest surprise is Lady Grinning Soul; never even played live (right?). Was there a campaign?
It's LABRYNTH, idiot!

There was a 'Just Say Win' campaign circa Reality. It was also Gail Ann Dorsey's favorite Bowie song so it was widely touted for revival during the ensuing tour.
As for LGS, members of Wankerworld have given themselves credit for this - feeling that either Bowie must have gone there personally or sent his henchmen to gage fan opinion. More than likely though, he was gaging opinion via this website considering my thread 'Greatest song never played live' which dates back around 7 years ago.

Cygnet Committee? I love that song but that one is surprising. I figure that the list was compiled from a few total Bowie fans rather than lots of music fans as a whole.

Only two songs post '73. Do we all really believe that Bowie's ten greatest songs predominantly appeared exclusively in the 69-73 period? I certainly don't.
It's funny about 'Lady Grinning Soul' - I always thought people had a kind of love/hate relationship with it.
I used to be with it, but then they changed what "it" was. Now, what I'm with isn't it, and what's "it" seems weird and scary to me.

Look at lyric of the day (4/7) on the front page. Coincidence?
I like holding stuff.
