Cane Hill Documentary - Possible Bowie Involvement
|
|
|
Since July 2008, Cane Hill Asylum has been gradually undergoing demolition and urban explorers have been busy documenting it's final days.....
See Cane Hill here to the soundtrack of 'Life on Mars?'.
Even more interesting is that a professional doco is being made and project director Keith Boutcher hopes to involve actor Sir Michael Caine and rock star David Bowie.
"Both of them had half-brothers who were patients in Cane Hill. It's well-documented that David Bowie's half-brother killed himself by lying down on the tracks at Coulsdon South railway station in the 1980s." said Boutcher.
Evidence suggests that the front admin block (as featured on The Man Who Sold The World front cover) will be retained as will the chapel.

As you can see above, a recent development are the smashed out clock faces - an eerie manifestation of Mike Weller's depiction some 35 years earlier.

Looking at that alternate album cover for TMWSTW makes me realise that the picture itself is pretty good, but the overall design is ruined by the godawful cartoony writing above it.
As for the documentary, who knows? I think generally Bowie has been reticent when it comes to the whole Terry thing (not going to his funeral etc), with the obvious exceptions of when he wrote songs about him ("All the Madmen," "Jump They Say," etc).

You mean that original album cover? (Original in the very narrow sense of first released, of course.)
As for Daddy's involvement in the documentary... my money is on him not appearing. Too personal.

Yeah, well, alternate in the sense of it being not as commonly seen as the standard Bowie-in-dress cover...

Well the Cane Hill pic was the original cover in America, but was never released in the UK (the UK had dress, than a ziggy image for a reissue , than later back to dress)

Makes sense. The man in a dress was to risque for the Americans, so they replaced it with something they understand....a man with a gun.

What was the speech bubble supposed to have said?
I used to be with it, but then they changed what "it" was. Now, what I'm with isn't it, and what's "it" seems weird and scary to me.

Ah. Well that was kinda disappointing. I was hoping for something more... controversial I guess. Thanks though Gpup.
