Bowie To Reactivate Ziggy Stardust In 2009 by Paul Cashmere - January 24 2009 photo by Ros O'Gorman
Could 2009 be the year of the return of the David Bowie Ziggy Stardust character?
Undercover hears that Bowie may resurrect Ziggy at Coachella this year.
The success of Roger Waters performing the complete Dark Side of the Moon last year has lead Coachella organizers on a search for another event of that caliber for this year. Undercover hears they are talking to Bowie.
Only last week, Undercover reported that Bowie was back in the studio recording his first album in more than 5 years. Towards the end of the world tour for 2003s Reality, Bowie suffered a minor heart attack and has been out of the public eye ever since.
It was only last week when he announced he was recording in Berlin, the city where he made the Low, Lodger and Heroes albums.
Coachella whispers also suggest that Paul McCartney has also been tapped to headline one of the nights. More soon!

With artists such as:
ROGER WATERS
PRINCE
GOLDFRAPP
THE BREEDERS
THE VERVE
PORTISHEAD
KRAFTWERK
COLD WAR KIDS
... on last years bill, it is NO WONDER they are speaking to BOWIE right now.
This music festival has been raising the bar for what can be expected for the highest standard music festival.
All we need now is a big YES from The Daddy.

He won't do it. With all the plans he had underway for Ziggy 2002, and the backlash that came with it amongst his dedicated following.... If he can't do it for himself he won't be doing it for some huge festival.
Mark my words. Otherwise.... I will no longer be a Bowie fan. I'll have to listen to Nick Cave instead
BTW Adam, do you think the Breeders would be a big drawcard to Coachella? If Bowie and the only other band you may be interested in seeing is the Breeders, would it be worth the trek from Tullamarine?

It would be tragic for a 62 year old Bowie to release ZIGGY 2 or portray the original space alien on stage.
BUT....
Taking a leaf from Roger Waters direction last year, it would be nothing short of amazing to play the Ziggy Stardust album in it's entirety.
Then add unreleased outtakes from Ziggy 72, Ziggy 74 and Ziggy 02 for good measure.

I can see it now, a festival full of 100,000+ fluro-clad youths e-ing off their head to It Ain't Easy.
And the Bowie fans are about 1km from the stage cos they haven't been able to get any closer for the past 2 days cos all the stoned emos are camped all over the floor.
Amazing

My favorite rumor is that Britney will do a 45 min set in a dance tent, like, 4 realz.
My least favorite rumor is that Faith No More is reuniting to play it, because if it were true I'd actually have to make an effort to go.
I don't walk it like I talk it cause I run it

I heard that Marilyn Manson is finally going to kill himself on stage this Halloween, twelve years after anyone would have given a fuck.
