PETER GABRIEL & BOWIE TO COVER EACH OTHER IN 2010 [re: ]

According to NME, Peter Gabriel is set to release an orchestral covers album. Entitled Scratch My Back, the album is reported to be a "song swap" with a host of "extremely legendary artists" set to cover each other's material.

"The songs are not simply covers," Gabriel collaborator John Metcalfe told BBC 6 Music. "They are major reinterpretations of some famous stuff. It's quite radical."

Artists covered include the likes of Radiohead, Arcade Fire, Elbow, Bon Iver, The Kinks, Lou Reed, David Bowie, Neil Young and Talking Heads.

Although the album isn't expected until spring 2010, a supposed tracklisting for the album has been released by a Japanese distributor. The alleged tracklisting for 'Scratch My Back' is as follows:

'"Heroes"' (David Bowie)

'Street Spirit (Fade Out)' (Radiohead)

'The Book Of Love' (Magnetic Fields)

'Flume' (Bon Iver)

'My Body Is A Cage' (Arcade Fire)

'Listening Wind' (Talking Heads)

'I Think It's Going to Rain Today' (Randy Newman)

'Après Moi' (Regina Spektor or Eartha Kitt)

'Waterloo Sunset' (The Kinks)

'The Boy In The Bubble' (Paul Simon)

'The Power Of The Heart' (Lou Reed)

'Philadelphia' (Neil Young)

'Mirrorball' (Elbow)

This of course leaves speculation as to what Peter Gabriel song David Bowie might cover ... presuming of course, he chooses to resume his music career in the new decade.

Solsbury Hill would be an interesting choice or Here Comes the Flood. They'd be in his range.

I'm not familiar with the work of Peter Gabriel, but it's so cool that this album involves the top two members of my Eternal Fanship: David Bowie and Radiohead!!

I've set up Yahoo! Calendar to email me a reminder in spring 2010...

What Gabriel songs could Bowie cover?

"And Through The Wire" is very Bowie-esque. Same goes for "Games Without Frontiers", "San Jacinto", "I Have The Touch" - which could be a hit, I think - "Lay Your Hands On Me", "Don't Give Up", "Mercy Street", the wonderful "We Do What We're Told (Milgram's 37)", "This Is The Picture (Excellent Birds)", "Love To Be Loved" would sound great sung by Bowie, "Digging In The Dirt" too.

Hope this tracklisting isn't set in stone. I can't think of a more boring choice of Bowie song to cover than "Heroes."

remember that steamy Miami Vice love scene new [re: EJ]

I think In the Air tonight is a good song. (Doesn't mean Bowie should cover it, necessarily.) I'm serious.
Do you have anything against it, except it being overplayed in the 80s?
