I seldom visit and the first thread I open is Emil mistaking a Collins number for a Gabriel one.

Fucking idiot.

Re: Yes, i made a mistake new [re: Emil]

Hmmm, no mention of Bowie and the other artists returning the favour but this is what has been reported in BWW news and reflected by other recent reports:

SCRATCH MY BACK
13th November 2009

As you may know PETER GABRIEL has covered DAVID BOWIE's anthemic song "Heroes" for his next album entitled 'Scratch My Back'.

His album contains twelve cover songs and is scheduled for release on 25th January 2010.

The tracklisting run as follows:

"Heroes" (David Bowie)
'The Boy In The Bubble' (Paul Simon)
'Mirrorball' (Elbow)
'Flume' (Bon Iver)
'Listening Wind' (Talking Heads)
'The Power Of The Heart' (Lou Reed)
'My Body Is A Cage' (Arcade Fire)
'The Book Of Love' (The Magnetic Fields)
'I Think It's Going To Rain Today' (Randy Newman)
'Apres Moi' (Regina Spektor)
'Philadelphia' (Neil Young)
'Street Spirit' (Radiohead)

John Metcalfe (Gabriel collaborator) told BBC 6 Music: "The songs are not simply covers. They are major reinterpretations of some famous stuff. It's quite radical."

Metcalfe also said the album will be acoustic, using only orchestral instruments (no guitars, drums or world instruments) and range in size from sparse chamber music to a much fuller orchestral sounds.

Re: Yes, i made a mistake new [re: Adam]

Elbow's singer has about the same voice as Peter Gabriel, so it should be interesting.

Bowie could do the creepy "Digging in the dirt". Or maybe "More than this". It's hard to imagine, though.

I really hope - given Bowie's inconsistent history with covers - that he doesn't just pick the most obvious song and then fuck it up beyond recognition.

Well, we'd have something to laugh at at least. That's better than nothing.

Re: PETER GABRIEL & BOWIE TO COVER EACH OTHER IN 2 new [re: Adam]

Well, so much for that.

From the article:
"I wanted to do Heroes, but Bowie didn't want to sing on the album. So instead Brian Eno (who co-wrote the song) will be doing a cover of one of my songs for it."

The pain is like snow, there you go [re: schizophrenic]

This was a long time coming but I'm afraid this seals the deal .....

I hereby declare that - as a Bowie fan of nearly 20 years - I do not expect to hear anything new from David Bowie ever again.

Fact 1:

All the other legends including Neil Young, Paul Simon and Brian Eno have no problem appearing on this record - yet Bowie will not.

Fact 2:

This is the perfect chance for Eno and Bowie to work with each other again, in addition to plugging a hole in the spectrum of legendary collaborations (ie. Bowie and Gabriel).

Fact 3:

Eno working on the track is almost a guaranteed stamp of quality. In fact, if need be, Eno can do ALL the work and then all Bowie has to do is email in a few lines sung through his Maintosh.

Fact 4:

And it appears Bowie won't even do that.

Well, that's it folks. The last bit of hope I had for something new is now truly vanquished. If Eno and Gabriel combined cannot inspire Bowie to lift a finger for this recording, then from this day forward, the artist known as David Bowie is only a figure of the past.
