Bowie In The Studio Last Summer? [re: ]

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sj5oK7FtC1A

The interesting bit comes up around 2:03. I stumbled across this video looking for recent Bowie vids uploaded to YouTube. The band is called "Relief," they're Irish and totally rubbish... but apparently Bowie was next door to them in the studio while they recorded their debut album. Their website says they recorded in Ireland and NYC as of August 4th, 2009. Interesting..... was Bowie working on any side projects or something? I can't seem to remember.

In Looking Glass studios? With Philip Glass?
Interesting...

VERY promising

I don't think it was Looking Glass - that studio was nearing closure in Feb last year. Posted here. Mark Plati was working on the very last session there (but no mention of Bowie being involved).

Studio B at Avatar, NYC.

Moreover, it would appear to be some other project than the Space Oddity 40th as my liner notes suggest that was done at Abbey Road.

According to the studio website, the room has excellent recording and multi-tracking capabilities - in addition to good mixing capability. Thus it would seem to be overkill for the job of exclusively mixing/mastering.

What a great find! Seems Bowie is up to something ... but what?

(I think Irish band 'Relief' are rather good).

Maybe Bowie was putting the finishing touches on his upcoming double live CD, to be released on January 26, 2010.

After six years of not releasing a full-length album, David Bowie will finally make a new musical set a reality with a double live CD of performances from his A Reality Tour, offering the remastered tracks in a package bearing the same title, A Reality Tour. The resulting 33-song set will be made available in both physical and digital formats on January 26, 2010.

Rest of the story ~ here ~

Judging by that guy's accent I reckon a more apt name for the band would be 'Plastic Paddy's'

Great find, nice work. Great to see this.

That said: I agree with Infidel--this could very likely be Bowie signing off on the three new tracks and the mastering on the Reality live CD.

Your date for this is a little early, I believe: CMJ here was later in September, when the guy says there were in NYC. Perhaps the August date is Ireland work?

That sounds right Rubleem. I think the website states that they started their Ireland/NYC recorded album in August. Hypothetically if Bowie was working on a larger project like an album and was only getting stated when they were leaving, then it is also not impossible that his work at Avatar is not yet complete. Any chance you can duck in there and check their booking sheets?
