Station To Station - September 20th ...

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

...

Looks like it's been worth the wait!

(From Bnet/Blammo)

It's always nice to start a new month with some good news and I think you'll agree this is rather good news.

We first mentioned this one almost a year ago (08.11.2009 NEWS: STATION TO STATION FOUR DISC SET DUE NEXT YEAR) and it is with much pleasure that we are now able to exclusively announce the release of EMI's 3-CD Special Edition and 5-CD, DVD and heavyweight vinyl Deluxe Edition of David Bowie's massively influential 1976 album, Station To Station ...along with the much bootlegged fan favourite: Live Nassau Coliseum '76.

Playcom in the UK has the 3 CD boxset priced at 13.99 and the Delux Boxset priced at 90.90

I shall be purchasing both versions.

Return of the Thin White Duke new [re: Quills]

In addition to these releases, it's just been announced that there's to be a Super Deluxe Limited Edition (available to Bowienet members only) that contains a further 8 remixes, lots more replicas of stuff and, straight from the Bowie archive, refrigerated piss from the Thin White Duke himself.

Seriously, it may be one of the finest albums ever recorded but, as kipt alluded to, just how many different versions of the same album does a person need? For the record, I'll buy the Special Edition just for the official release of the Nassau concert - although I'm rather pissed that they've removed the drum solo from the CD release.

Re: Return of the Thin White Duke new [re: EuropeanCanon]

Good heavens the deluxe boxset looks like a home scrapbooking kit or something. I agree that many versions of a six track album is way overkill but I am actually most attracted to the photos and booklets and having the album AND the live recording on wonderful VINYL.

So I'll be shelling out the $150 or so, yikes.

Even though the 'Deluxe Edition' does have some great, photos, booklets, badges etc.
7 copies of a 6 track album is way over the top, not to mention a bit pricey.

For me its a case of less is more ... I am going for the 'Special Edition'.

I would get the Deluxe edition, too, mainly for both the Nassau show and the DVD which has all the versions you would want including the 5.1 and the superior quality editions. The extras are nice but I do think the 1985 CD master is the most redundant thing on the list especially since the sound quality must be the worse of the lot...Im assuming that, though, so correct me if Im wrong.

Anyone picked up on the fact that the DVD may NOT contain the full six track album but four versions of the track "Station to Station"!!!

Station To Station (original analogue master, 96kHz/24bit LPCM stereo)
Station To Station (new Harry Maslin 5.1 surround sound mix in DTS 96/24 and Dolby Digital)
Station To Station (original analogue master, LPCM stereo)
Station To Station (new Harry Maslin stereo mix, 48kHz/24bit LPCM stereo)

No mention of the full track listing anywhere for the DVD.

To anyone considering buying the box set:

The box set will feel incomplete without a Gitanes package. I happen to have some (empty ones) available for sale!

There is a limited amount available so act fast, but I shall endeavour to raise my smoking rate as much as possible to meet demand.

Sorry, globule2, I want my box from a smoke-free home!

BTW, I will be getting a review copy of it, so I should have thoughts posted on my blog soon after it arrives. I wrote up some opinions on it after the announcement in this entry:

http://indieethos.wordpress.com/2010/07/02/david-bowies-station-to-station-to-be-reissued-in-fancy-9-disc-package/

I also posted the US press release here:

Not that these are much news at this point, but stay tuned, as I should get it ahead of official release date...

I don't know which version you have, but I have the West German RCA pressing (with the red coloured spine, as opposed to the Japanese pressings which had blue coloured spines) and the whole thing sounds like it's been recorded under a wet blanket.

If it's the same pressing as I have, then yes, it's redundant. Regardless, it's a strange inclusion anyway. Why is it there, other than to bump up the price of the Deluxe version?

I used to be with it, but then they changed what "it" was. Now, what I'm with isn't it, and what's "it" seems weird and scary to me.

When dogz says "Actually the original 1985 RCA audio is one of the best"

He's expressing someone else's opinion or he's copied that from another forum or both.
