Vince Taylor

He ended up going to France. Ah, quite mad, mad as a hatter, Vince. And he formed a band over there. One night he walked out onstage dressed as Jesus and said, "I won't be needing this band anymore. In fact, I won't be needing any of you. 'Cause I have places to go, and, and a father to return to." And he became Christ! I met him once in London, and he took me down Oxford Street in London, and opened up maps and put them on the pavement and showed me where all the UFOs were going to be landing shortly. And Vince kind of became a role model for the Ziggy-type character.

Well, Vince Vince unfortunately is no longer with us, he died about seven or eight years ago, he ended up -- this is very unsettling -- there as a maintenance man in Geneva Airport for Swiss Airlines...! Not many people know that, Bradley!

Vince Taylor new [re: Ruskie]

He came over to London for a couple of weeks, and I got to know him. He was TRULY NUTS, and really thought he was some composite between the Son of God and an alien. The thing that always stays in my mind is him spreading out maps of the world on the pavement in front of Tottenham Court Road tube station in rush hour traffic, and us kneeling and looking and he was showing me where all the space ships were going to land.(laughs) There were all these commuters going backwards and forwards over our map! I thought 'This is unreal. I LOVE this' He was quite a party boy which was one of the reasons I knocked around with him.

I want to make an impact on myself. I'd much rather take chances than stay safe. Like in the movie I'm doing. Everything's is against me. I'm going into a dead straight, nonmusical role. No singing. And I will be bloody good. I have to be. 'Cause if I ain't, that's it. Another rock singer…is still a rock singer. If that's the case, I want to go out like Vince Taylor.

Yeah. He was the inspiration for Ziggy. Vince Taylor was an American rock & roll star from the Sixties who was slowly going crazy. Finally, he fired his band and went onstage one night in a white sheet. He told the audience to rejoice, that he was Jesus. They put him away.

Re: Vince Taylor new [re: Adam]

My records were selling and I was being a man in demand. I thought of Vince and wrote "Ziggy Stardust." I thought of my brother and wrote "Five Years." Then my friend came to mind, standing the way we stood in Bewlay Bros. and I wrote "Moonage Daydream."
