BBC Sessions Sampler - how much would you pay?
|
|
|
Remember the BBC Sessions sampler that came out in 1996 on NMC? Well, I keep seeing it selling for three figure sums, today ranging from £250 to £500. It was most recently valued at £350, but the big question is - what would you be willing to pay? I bought a copy brand new 5 years ago, and I'm in no doubt that it is a collectable, but I think that it's value will have been decreased by the EMI's release of the sessions last year. Any thoughts?

According to this thread it was fetching about $30 on ebay towards the end of last year. But if it is selling for 3 figure sums on the British pound, then I'm a happy man.

The sampler contains tracks that are not at the BBC sessions cd and have never been officially released besides the sampler. I'm happy I bought the sampler at the time it was released.

I didn't realise this was the case. I just asumed the tracks were all on the new release. I'll have to go and listen to the sampler again.
Just wish they would release an album with all the other tracks that were recorded but not yet released.

I replied to the original thread that Adam has linked and hven't changed my views since. There are simply way too many of these things in circulation for it to be worth the silly sums quoted. I bought mine for $20 including postage from Ebay about three months ago.

"Andy Warhol" and "I'm Waiting for The Man" are not on the new release, and IMO, they are better than almost anything on it.
"Andy Warhol" is from the extraordinary Ronson / Bowie acoustic duo performance. This also happened to be the only STEREO BBC recording. Bowie at the Beeb only included 2 songs from that session!.
The Sampler version of "Waiting for the Man" is very bluesy and unlike any I've heard before.

That would be the fantastic session that Oh you pretty things (which is on the Japanese pressing of the BBC album) came from.
I've just gone and got my sampler album out. It's a shame that the 3 CDs as listed in the booklet were never released.
Just listening to Andy Warhol now and it's just as good as Oh you pretty things.
All 6 songs from that session should have been released on the official album. I hope that Fill your heart and Amsterdam will turn up somewhere someday, soon.

you can always scratch up either the rise and rise set or get the earlier oh! you pretty thing boot, both have the acoustic dave and mick 71 broadcast.
The Supermen Oh! You Pretty Things / Eight Line Poem Kooks Fill Your Heart Amsterdam Andy Warhol
both supposedly from the masters, not that final mixing job but it's excellent all the same. but if you get the 4cdr rise set you pretty much get what may have been intended with the original 3cd concept, not in the same pristine quality, but i ain't quibbling.
