Perfect Day new

Hey Y'All,
I just downloaded the most bitchin' cover song ("Perfect Day"-Duh) I have ever heard. It's an all-star group of musicians (inc. db,Lou Reed Bono and more).
It's from a benefit CD-Single with three versions-Everybody,Male Singers and Female Singers.
It runs about 3 1/2 minutes long, but unfortunately it clips off about 5 seconds at the end when Reed has a last line.
But cool none the less.

"The sun never sets on those who ride into it"

The song you are refering too was recorded by the BBC for an advert to show the diversity of artists that the BBC airs. There was such a demand from the British public, that it eventually got a release with all monies going to the BBC's Children In Need charity. Needless to say it got to No. 1 which adds to Bowie's list of No.1s with other artists!

We're Sending Our Love Down The Well new [re: nigelp]

That's got to be one of the cheesiest and corniest covers ever produced. Bowie sings his two lines well but some of those other people are just shocking - like Mr Melodrama, singing in that exaggerated, operatic style. What's with his choice of charity songs? First there was the best-left-unmentioned Dancing In The Street, then this; any others?

Bowie is the best part of this song, watching the video now I forget who most of the fads are.

I have this recorded and it was before I was into Bowie. But I liked the song and *eventually* found out it was an original by Lou.

Oh, ok Marge, I'll get along with them.
Then, I will hug some snakes.
Yes! I will hug and kiss some poisonous snakes!

Now that's sarcasm.

I think Lou's line was 'I like doing charity work'.

From what I can make out, Lou doesn't like his most popular songs. He re-recorded Perfect Day for The Raven, and bent it out of all recognition. He also went on a 16 minute tirade about how he hated the song Walk on the Wild Side on the live album Take No Prisoners (only included, I think, because the record company stipulated the inculsion of one of his 'hits'). At least he followed it up by crooning his way through Leave Me Alone quite successfully.

In reply to:

And I was rather disappointed in the full version, the instrumental snippet sounded much better.

That still doesn't make it right.

Sounds good to me. I need more Lou Reed. Actually, to put it another, more accurate way, I need some Lou Reed.

it's worth saying that most of the vocals on that single were recorded acappella then electronically moulded to fit the backing track, so some of the performances seem a little wonky.

It's not the production I find fault with, it's definitely the style of the performances.

I think that is down to what I was saying.... like Pop Idol versions stuck over a soulless backing.

Like John I'm Only Dancing (Again).
