Check ebay and Amazon for the DVD of "Love You Till Tuesday"--its a collection of short "videos" and mime that was worked up to promote David and the "Feathers" outfit (remember Hutch and Hermione?). It has "When I'm Five" on it, complete with a promo video thingy where Bowie sings the whole song with the carriage and intonation of a five-year-old. I love Bowie so much I think it's cute--although others think it is outright laughable. Either way, worth it.

Isn't the Deram Anthology still available? It contains all the Deram stuff, including the first album and the original version of Space Oddity.

This is probably one of my favourite Bowie tracks from that period along with 'The London Boys'.

I have now accumulated a total of four versions of this song, all bad quality. Actually, one of them isn't too bad, just clipped so it's missing parts from the start and the end. Does noone have a full length, CD quality version?

Not too bad, I'll give it 3.5 out of 5. Of course I'm grateful to you for putting on the effort and it is better than the other copies I've got but I think it's still too heavily compressed (i.e. it's possible to hear some distortion). If you'd gone for 128, I think it might have turned out better (unless, of course, the poor quality is a feature of the recording itself, in which case you can basically ignore everything I've just said).

That is 128. The entire CD is very poor quality and I guess I should have pointed that out but I thought it might be an improvement to what you do have. I took it off of the Love You Till Tuesday soundtrack which was released by Pick Wick music. There may be a better copy out there but since I'm pretty sure this song was never featured on any album that is of good quality that's probably the best you will ever get. Good luck though and sorry I wasn't much help.

No I ripped it off of my CD and then changed it to a MP3 so obviously that's the best it's going to get. As I said the entire CD isn't of the best quality but it's the only CD to feature the song.

So why is the file you uploaded only 96Kbps and 2.2MB? My edited version, compressed at 128Kbps, is 2.7MB so the full thing should be at least 3MB.

It will be your MP3 ripping software not the disc that's the problem. You should be able to alter the decoding rate in your software and rip it at a higher bitrate.

Funny, I did not realize that this track was so rare! Just because I had it since 1984 on the L.Y.T.T. soundtrack... I was about to tell you to buy any good sixties-Bowie compilation such as the Deram anthology - but browsing throught the discography I realized that it is only on LYTT (and possibly a few bootlegs)! Why is that? Clearly Deram/Decca holds the rights to this baby since it was on that album. And it's not very inferior to any of the songs that do regularly get official releases (Gospel acc. to Tony day etc).
Someone knows the answer to that puzzle??

It's like asking why Rare was never released on CD, when it has tracks which can't be found elsewhere. Obviously there's more money to be made rehashing the same old material over and over again than there is is making true rarities available. To make things worse, though, there are actually two different versions of Love You Till Tuesday available and they're both about as rare as each other.

Like I've said somewhere else, Bowie has vetoed the release of When I'm Five and a bunch of previously unreleased songs for Deram Anthology, and the same probably holds true for the other Decca compilations.
And Rare was released without Bowie's consent, and he might still have a grudge against that album.

I'm not sure if I understood you correctly... but if I did, perhaps it is so that Bowie cannot stop Deram rereleasing material that was released while he was working for them. Actually, it probably is that Deram could release whatevewr they wanted, but they do not wish to anger Bowie.
While EMI just seems too lazy or generally stupid to release anything worthwile (since we do know that they can release anything they wish to release, with or without Bowies permission).
