... then it was april 12, now some sites say may 2. my optimistic side says bowie wants to add a tour video diary or something. my realistic side says it will end where all live post-glass spider projects ended.

Why would Bowie release a DVD of a tour that still has a couple months of dates remaining?

Yeah, I think it will continue to be pushed back until the tour is closer to being done. But didn't the Stones release their live boxed set while still touring? And the same with Britney, Janet and Madonna for each of their respective live DVD/cable broadcasts?
I'll be seeing YOU in Philadelphia, Kansas City, St. Louis, Holmdel, and Wantaugh. So dress sharp.

I think the Dublin bootleg from the official tapes must be taken as an encouraging sign.
Dixie ChiX and Shania are two acts who put out DVD's before thier tour ended. I think U2 put out their DVD a couple weeks before the elevation tour ended in 2001.
Bowie seem to go out of his way that the Dublin shows were intended for release. All his other video projects over the past decade were all stuff he just filmed for the archive.
Lastly, there's been no live TV appearances this tour(except for a couple things in sept and oct) with none scheduled. Is Bowie clearing the decks for a live DVD?

The Dixie Chicks tour ended on Oct. 12, 2003. The Top Of The World Tour DVD wasn't released until Nov. 25, 2003.
If you don't have anything nice to say, go to London and say it in front of 2000 people. NM.

I thought the Dixie Chicks put out a DVD of a full length TV appearance before the 2003 tour even started.

They did. The TV appearance, an abbreviated version, which was aired on TV in Dec. 2002, was released on DVD in Feb. 2003. This DVD was titled An Evening With The Dixie Chicks Live From The Kodak Theatre where they show cased their CD Home which was released a few months earlier. The Top Of The World tour started on March 10, 2003.
