Can anyone please tell me what was the point of these Long Boxes? apart from an enormous waste of cardboard the CD must have appeared very odd in these daft containers.
How long did they issue these for? we never had these in the UK as far as I can remember.

It was purely a US idea, it was just in the late 80s and early 90s. My copy of Tin Mchine II came in a long box as I bought it on Import as by the time I was buying cds it was no longer easy to get in the UK. I immediately put the box in the bin.
You should not underestimate people, not everybody is as thick as you.

I think we discussed this recently, the main point of the long boxes was that they could be displayed in the same shelves as LP's, which saved the shopkeepers from investing in new display shelves.

Right I see now, but was the CD inside protected in anyway? and were there any booklets inside.

Well yeah that does make sense, such a terrible waste of card though
