Anotherpoet is obviously no longer at the starting point of his artistic path, it is evident in the choice of words, it is also evident in the choice of imagery. He despises all forms of imitation; he glorifies all forms of originality. He is a true innovator.

Picasso, on the other hand, was not an innovator, he experimented with different techniques untill he descovered African art. Cubism was greatly inspired by the simplified, stylized forms of African sculpture. At the time, the Western world considered this aesthetically different cultural form of expression primitive. These "savage" forms and shapes were simply modified by Picasso and other contemporary artists to suit their own style needs.

Now Van Gogh was a true innovator because he was able to present a new vision triggered out by his own emotions. His brilliant colour scheme and his emotionally forceful images showed that his paintings were responses to his deep emotional reaction to visual experiences. Remember, the term Expressionism wasn't used untill the 1920's - it took people about 40 years to recognize the significance of his work.
