I like to know as much about music as possible.

Call it a hobby, call it a passion, call it anal retention, but I have a desire to know a little something about every band I read mention of.

Of course, I could just look them up for myself, but dry summaries aren't really my bag. I want to know people's feelings about such things.

So, regardless, I'm going to list some bands and provide my limited knowledge about them. Help me out with more information, please! What did the band sound like, how did they behave, what songs might I know etc...

Warning: A lot of the bands listed maybe what we in the business like to call 'seriously wack'. As a rule, most good bands I already know; it's the shite ones that trip me up

Jeffersonj Starship/Starship - Used to be Jefferson Airplane. Originals members gone by the time they were Starship. Did that 'We Built This City' song?

Mike and the Mechanics - Genesis (shudder) spin-off, possibly featuring the lanky weird looking one. Can't sound much like the day job, as my life-long Genesis fan father owns none of their oeuvre

Talk Talk - Did that 'It's My Life' song, which is dope. And...?

Visage - Singer in 'Ashes to Ashes' video, arrested for stealing Tellytubby in late 90s. May have made some music inbewteen times.

Journey - Soft rock? According to 'Family Guy', people will stop whatever their doing, including pallbearing/grieving over dead spouse to run and watch people karaoke-ing their songs.

Phish - 90s Greatful Dead (shudder)? Had a song named 'David Bowie'.

Bucks Fizz - British Eurovision winners?

10 000 Maniacs - Had a chick singer. Got compared to REM (horrific shudder) a lot. Singer left. Got new chick singer. Awful cover of 'More Than This' with shitty carnival themed video.

Menswear - Britpop?

Badfinger - 'The New Beatles'. But obviously not...

Phil Ochs - The old Dylan. But obviously not...

ELO - The New New Beatles?

Loudon Wainwright III - The father of the 'Gay Messiah', thus probably making him the gay God. Robbie Williams shamelessly plagiarised him on 'Jesus in a Campervan'.

The Butthole Surfers - Did that song 'Pepper'. Band T-Shirts can be found in hurricane relief support donations, along with ones bearing legend 'I'm with stupid'.


I'm sure there's many more, but this is a good start.
