I volunteered at donation drives after 9/11, and eventually got over my fear of needles enough to give blood, but I can no longer do so since I've travelled too much.

(I've spent too much time in Britain and Russia to be allowed to donate by the set standards.)

I really enjoyed volunteering, though. Maybe I should start that up again.

And ohramona, I'm really sorry about your medical results. Hope the biopsy turns out well, and there's no recurrence.
