Old Grumpy's going to Sydney in December/January for a stage show of his best album. Bob Ezrin and Julian Schnabel are involved. From the NME:
Lou Reed is to get ready for the stage version of his seminal 1973 album Berlin.
In December the singer will fly to Australia to help premiere the stage show.
Following the dates in December, the production is set to run seven times throught mid January 2007 in Sydney at the St.Ann's Warehouse.
The production is being directed by Berlin producer Bob Ezrin.
Reed is due to be joined on stage by Antony Hegarty from Antony & the Johnsons, singer Sharon Jones, Fernando Saunders and Rob Wasserman.
Artistic Director of St Ann's Susan Feldman said:
"I have been wanting to produce Berlin ever since a cousin of mine first handed it to me on a cassette about ten years ago.
"It's been gratifying to engage Lou and some of his closest collaborators - Bob Ezrin, Julian Schnabel, Hal Willner - in what's sure to be a labor of love and an important part of rock history. Berlin is a sad song about people on the edge, that, at its highest moments, achieves a shimmering elegance."
