Warren Jeffs [re: ]

Hi. By now, almost everyone has heard of Warren Jeffs, the self-proclaimed Mormon prophet who had sex with many underage children. Of course this is evil. But I'd like to focus on another serious issue related to this case. The nature of religious continuous revelation.

Warren Jeffs claimed to be a prophet and God told him that having sex with as many girls as possible was God's will. To us this sounds sick. To us this sounds perverted. However, Warren Jeffs is not alone: almost all Christian religions claim they have continuous revelation, they claim that God is still revealing His will today to select members.

Mormons, Catholics, Pentecostals, Jehovah's Witnesses, and most other denominations have popes, priests or prophets that claim to still get messages from God. Unfortunately, we live in a politically correct era in which it's considered bad taste to criticize any religion. So, we blithely accept these claims in the spirit of tolerance. Even Presidential candidates claim that Gold told them to run.

The fact is, God's revelation was finished, complete and entirely revealed in the New Testament. It is done. There is no more. The Bible contains all we need to be saved. But one might ask, "How do we know they were really inspired by Christ?" God is very reasonable. He gave the inspired prophets the ability to work miracles to confirm their message.

Of course, Warren Jeffs had no imprimatur from God to marry a 12 year old. But I ask you to beware of anyone who claims their religion has a modern day prophet who speaks from God. This is also the essence of deception.
